Dorchester CarnivalThe annual Dorchester Carnival will weave its way through the historic county town again in June 2011, and this is another popular Dorset event for all ages. The procession never fails to paint the town with colour, and crowds line the city centre to cheer on the floats! Dorchester Carnival adopts a new theme every year, and the residents set about creating their weird and wonderful costumes with gusto! There are also vintage cars, bands and more to enjoy as the county town welcomes the carnival. |
CorFest, Isle of PurbeckCorfe Castle is one of the Isle of Purbeck’s most stunning sites, and this medieval ruin is the perfect place for this annual Dorset event that’s all about FUN! CorFest is the castle’s very own festival of fun and it’s the perfect events for the whole family. This year’s festival will be held on 10-12 June 2011and as usual its programme is already packed with events. There will be a Black Tie Dinner, a Doctor Who evening, a dog show, a scarecrow competition, It’s a Knockout, a special cricket match and much more to enjoy. |
International Kite FestivalThe International Beach Kite Festival in Weymouth is one of the best-loved events in Dorset, and it’s been a success for more than two decades. This year’s festival will run from 30 April until 2 May, so the Bank Holiday will be cheery and bright on Weymouth’s seafront! The sight of hundreds of decorates kites soaring high above the sand is not to be missed, and the spectators have as much fun as the kite flyers themselves. The festival also includes live music, a fair and kite workshops. |

2012 Sporting Events, WeymouthWe couldn’t list upcoming events in Dorset without mentioning the ever-closer 2012! Weymouth’s impressive harbour (which is one of the biggest natural harbours in the world) made it the choice of venue for the Sailing and Paralympic Sailing events for the 2010 Olympics. The events will centre around Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour, attracting thousands to watch the competitions. Weymouth was the first of the Olympic venues to be completed ready for the events, and the sailing facilities around the harbour have been enhanced for the occasion. |
Bournemouth Air FestivalNow for one of the biggest annual events in Bournemouth, make sure the Bournemouth Air Festival is in your diary. This year’s Bournemouth Air Festival will be held from 18 – 21 August, and it’s the largest free aviation festival in the UK. The Air Festival has become one of the biggest Dorset events, and includes breathtaking air displays, family attractions and a fantastic event for the evening too. This is an event for the whole family and there’s always a great atmosphere. Just cross your fingers that the weather holds out this year! |
