Dog Friendly Dorset AttractionsWith the list of beaches above you may find it difficult to drag your pets from the thrill of the shore, but there are one or two dog friendly Dorset attractions to enjoy too. Corfe Castle in Wareham is one of Dorset’s most enchanting sites, and this ruined medieval fortress has a special atmosphere. Dogs are welcome on short leads, and the attraction is open all year round. This isn’t the only historic attraction to welcome dogs along, Nothe Fort in Weymouth also accepts doggie visitors on leads. The foreboding fort dominates Weymouth’s famous harbour, and is filled with fascinating displays, underground tunnels and history.

Dog Friendly Dorset WalksWhilst walking your dogs at home may not be a quick stroll around the block, a dog friendly Dorset holiday is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some time with your pet and get to know the fascinating county on foot. The Isle of Portland circuit is a 3 mile walk with few obstacles which is ideal for dog walkers. The walk follows the disused quarry tracks and is an exhilarating cliff walk with spectacular views. Some parts of this walk run close to unfenced cliff edges, so if you let your dog off the lead it may be best to keep them on for these sections. |
Dog Friendly Dorset PubsWith such ideal settings for dog walks throughout the county, it’s little wonder that there are so many dog friendly Dorset pubs and restaurants waiting to welcome you and your pets. There’s no shortage of pet friendly watering holes to choose from after a day spent chasing sticks, but we’ve found a few to get you started. The Marquis of Granby in Weymouth is a dog friendly pub and restaurant, and The Lugger Inn near Weymouth has a beer garden and serves hot food too. Along the coast in Christchurch the Woolpack Inn welcomes dogs and offers a beer garden, and the Caddy Shack in Dorchester also boasts a beer garden and serves hot food.

Dog Friendly Dorset BeachesDorset is framed by a coastline filled with sandy beaches and bays, so it’s important to check the restrictions on those closest when choosing your dog friendly Dorset accommodation. Large areas of Avon Beach in Christchurch are dog friendly all year round, and the family-run cafe also welcomes them inside and on the terrace. In Purbeck, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door beaches are dog friendly, although some of the main beaches impose seasonal dog bans. Cogden in Bridport welcomes dogs, but please note this is a naturist beach! Branksome Dene near Poole is dog friendly all year, as is the west end of Sandbanks Beach all year round. |
