Highcliffe CastleNow for a beautiful Christchurch attraction, the historic Highcliffe Castle. Highcliffe Castle was built in 1836 and is a stunning echo of the Romantic era. The castle was the dream of Lord Stuart de Rothesay, a diplomat with a passion for Christchurch Bay and the spot that overlooks it. The mansion is Grade 1 listed and its cliff top position only adds to its elegance. Highcliffe has been carefully restored in recent years, and many of its rooms are open to the public for a small admission fee. Guided tours of the castle are available every Tuesday and Sunday at 2pm, when volunteers reveal the history and secrets of the castle.

Bournemouth PierWhat’s a day exploring Bournemouth attractions if you don’t go to the pier?! Bournemouth Pier juts proudly in the midst of a 7 mile stretch of golden sand, and it’s filled with things to do. One of the highlights of the pier is its views of the Isle of Wight in one direction and the Purbeck Hills in the other – so don’t forget your camera. Also, you’ll find the Pier Theatre, shops and a restaurant to keep you occupied, and it’s the perfect place to pick some souvenirs. Dorset Cruises operate from Bournemouth Pier too, and trips include Poole Quay, Brownsea Island and the famous Jurassic Coast. |
The Blue PoolThe Blue Pool is one Dorset attraction that’s not to be missed, although it is a short drive from the city, near Wareham. The Blue Pool has drawn curious visitors in their hundreds since its discovery in 1935, as its waters are forever changing colour! The pool has got to be the most peaceful attract in the area, surrounded by green woodland and bowing trees. The suspension of very fine clay beneath the pool’s water produces a spectrum of different colours, painting the pool anything from blue, green to turquoise day by day. The pool is open to the public between 1 March and 30 November.
