A hidden treasure of a Woolacombe Beach, Grunta Beach is difficult to reach but more than worth it when you get there. The beach is reached via a steep descent along a cliff pathway, but its sheltered location makes it a lovely sun trap where you’re unlikely to find yourself one of a crowd.
This Woolacombe Beach has by far the most unusual name – and the story behind it doesn’t disappoint. The name was given when a shipwrecked nearby and a litter of pigs were washed up at the foot of the cliffs. The grunting was so noisy that it could be heard in the village! Dogs are welcome throughout the year.
