Description

Set in a small valley in the heart of the South Hams, The Linhay at Lukesland offers a chance to escape into the real Devon countryside. The property is set in an officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and surrounded by farmland. Lukesland is itself a registered holding whose 15 acres of grassland are quietly mown by grazing sheep and whose small, but prolific, flock of chickens lay fresh eggs for breakfast!

The Linhay is a newly converted barn, once used for milking and stables. The Linhay is attached to the owner's house but has its own, separate entrance from the courtyard, allowing easy access by car for unloading luggage. The spacious 40’ x 13’ room has a king-size double bed, underfloor heating, and a comfortable sitting room area with a kitchenette situated on the mezzanine floor.

Outside there is a gravelled barbecue area for the exclusive use of guests and a secluded garden, sunny all day, with a bench strategically positioned to bathe in the last rays of the setting sun. Guests are welcome to roam the fields, as are well behaved dogs on leads.

There are walks directly accessible from the property but, for the serious rambler, Dartmoor is just 15 minutes to the North and access to the South West Coast Path is 20 minutes south. Surfers will find sport close by at Bantham and sailors will delight in the facilities at Dartmouth and Salcombe. There are a number of golf courses in the area and Plymouth and Exeter offer film, theatre and other entertainments. The South Hams is an especially good base for the food lover; the area is blessed with fantastic restaurants and some famous chefs.

For larger parties, this property can be booked with neighbouring property Barn Studio to accommodate up to 4 guests.

We wanted a relaxing break and that is what we got! A lovely barn conversion, very friendly hosts. The local area is a joy to explore, Dartmouth is a real gem follow the coastal route for spectacular views. The California Inn is warm & cosy with very good food. We have driven down the narrowest roads ever & explored the local lanes by foot. A lovely break thank you!

The Linhay

We had a lovely, relaxing break. The Linhay is perfect and a warm and cosy place to return to after some sightseeing. We loved Burgh Island and Newton Ferrers. Found some great pubs and tea-rooms, visited Totnes Market and the castle as well as Buckland Abbey. Thank you so much Carol & Simon for providing excellent accommodation and a warm welcome!

The Linhay

With all the trials & tribulations of our rebuilding project ( grand designs eat your heart out) We both wanted to get away and relax. The Linhay never disappointed and was a few days of bliss. Simon & Carole were wonderful, with their welcome and the glorious birthday cake. Although our days were designed around enjoying hot water & showers (a luxury at the mo!) we enjoyed Totnes & Dartmoor a great deal for lovely little trips. The chickens were wonderfully curious little fellows who seemed to enjoy the delights of our car. Overall we cannot fault our holiday and it has been so special to get away and just unwind. Thank you for the eggs and other treats!

Had a wonderful stay. Beautiful weather, Great food, Wonderful holiday home. We would definitely recommend a trip to the local chilli farm - The strongest Chilli in the world is not for the fainthearted! Our visit luckily coincided with the Dartmouth food festival- sampled some amazing local items. Smithy (the dog) even had her fair share. Thank you for a lovely stay and the eggs!

We had a great week, lovely peaceful location, a good spot for writing all the places we have planned to see. The weather was fantastic and has given us some beautiful memories of the South. Thank you Carole for the flowers from your garden, especially the "Devon daisies". I hope Lewis didn't disturb the chickens too much, I think he'll miss them more than he'll miss them. From the moment we arrived at this homely cottage with its welcoming interior and hosts, we felt at home, and two weeks of Serendipity unfolded, as only god ca lay it out. Happy accidental discoveries galore. Our time with our family in Modbury- three energetic young grandsons- a treat! In various villages we stumbled across old gravestones of Huguenot forebears. Thank you Carole & Simon! God bless you!

The Linhay

We have had a fantastic time, total relaxation and quiet in this lovely cottage. The dogs loved the empty fields to run around in. Have been to many nice places but we liked Salcombe the best, You can take the dogs in pubs, cafes, shops and on the beaches (except South beach) North beach is great with breakfast at the Winking Prawn (do good food including a BBQ between 4pm->onwards.) Sad to be leaving but know we will definitely be back again! Thank you.

The Linhay has provided a great base from which to visit lots of other towns & villages & Millie especially enjoyed going in the sea at Slapton & Burgh Island. For eating out we recommend The Victoria Inn at Salcombe, The 2nd time we went we booked, as it is very popular! Thanks Carole & Simon, will keep an eye out for your next property!! p.s. The Linhay

Lovely Base for our short break here in Devon. The sun shone & the wind died down for the wedding in Modbury. Lovely to see the chickens at the door and see red-wings around the cottage! Thank you for making us feel so welcome!

The Linhay

We had been blessed with glorious weather, apart from one day one morning. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'The Linhay- very comfortable and very cosy- all this in a beautiful setting. We both loved Totnes, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury, Bigbury beach and Dartmouth. The local California Country Inn do a superb Sunday roast. Desserts are good too, especially the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. Thank you so much for the eggs, and the loan of a better map good luck with the other renovations. Simon you are a dab hand at D.I.Y. The bathroom is to die for. Carole - Hope it wont be too long before you are walking without crutches!

A great base to explore South Devon. A lovely peaceful cottage with warm but discreet hosts. We both have had a lovely break, especially our dog diesel! Our great find was The Beesands and The Cricket Inn. The food was superb and such friendly staff. A rolling film of the past was a wonderful idea. Thank you Carole & Simon for a lovely holiday at 'The Linhay' Paul & Louise and of course Diesel!

Thank you so much Carole & Simon for such a beautiful place to stay. We totally love the conversion. The peace and serenity of the area is absolutely relaxing. There is a lot we haven't done and seen but that is for next time. We do intend to come back! The weather has absolutely right for us. No rain until the last night. We are going back reluctant but well rested and refreshed. Thank you for your help. Devon is such a beautiful place and great to dream of retiring to in the future. Recommendations will flow from anyone who visits this area. You are a super couple and look forward to seeing you again and the chickens we will miss there strutting around! best wishes & god bless you both!

Many thanks for a wonderful break in 'The Linhay'. Such a beautiful place to stay. Thank you also for your advice on places to visit. We were fortunate to have sunshine every day - Which added too a great holiday. Dartmouth, Salcombe, Totnes are great places for days out. Topsham Bridge is a lovely place for walking the dogs. I hope future guests enjoy their stay as much as we did. We would highly recommend 'The Linhay' to family & friends and would love to stay again.

An idyllic week in Devon! Cottage was perfect location from which to explore, Walking trails in the South Hams - North, South, East & West there was something of interest without having to travel far. A Salcombe dairy ice-cream in one of the charming villages was a great way to recover from our walk before returning to comforts of 'The Linhay cottage'. Carole & Simon were charming and generous hosts with a wealth of local knowledge. All in all we could not have asked for a better experience in Devon. Thank you

We have had a wonderful stay here at the 'Linhay', we have really enjoyed our time in South Devon. Totnes was a pretty place where we had nice tea & cakes, and we loved walking in and around Salcombe, and a visit to Dartmouth. We would recommend the 'New Inn' pub in Moreleigh for nice food & good portions! Found this break away very relaxing, and would highly recommend to friends & family. We hope to come & visit again in the future!
