Description

The Old Vicarage is an imposing 19th century vicarage, built of local sandstone and set in a peaceful location between the picturesque thatched village of Cockington (listed in the Doomsday Book) and the splendid Victorian villas of Chelston, which lead down to the Torbay seafront.  The Old Vicarage originally served the parishes of Cockington Manor and Chelston and is a short walk away from Cockington Country Park with its craft shops and tea rooms.  Local shops are a 5 minute walk away and the seafront is 15 minutes.

The two bedroom cottage is the former Housekeeper's quarters within the Old Vicarage and has its own entrance, garden and off street parking for up to 3 vehicles.

The accommodation has recently been completely refurbished and has quality light oak furniture throughout, giving the property a subtle blend of contemporary, luxurious living within a Victorian property. There is also wooden patio furniture and a barbeque.

Cockington Court is nearby, offering the chance to watch craft demonstrations within the grounds of the historic manor house.  The grounds are also home to an organic kitchen garden, licensed restaurant offering the best of local fayre, and the Ark Play area offering safe play conditions for children. Visitors can also act like lord of the manor by taking a trip around the grounds in a horse drawn carriage.

Torquay seafront is within a 15 minute walk and the shops, restaurants and attractions of the town centre are a further 10 minute walk away.

This property especially welcomes families. There is a cot and highchair for younger guests, plus buckets, spades, toy cars, scooters and small bikes for children.

Excellent service all round!

Another great holiday with Blue Chip! The accommodation was exceptionally clean, mainly due to the fact Lindy is on hand anytime to help! The welcome gifts were a very nice touch for visitors! A shame more properties don't do the same! All in all, another great stay and looking forward to returning soon!

The Old Vicarage

We have had a great few days staying at The Old Vicarage! Thank you for the welcome gifts which were great before we went to explore. Lindy is extremely welcoming and we would definitely stay here in the future. This was our first family holiday and the house is brilliant for young children. Lindy provided extra bits just for our 15 week old son. We visited a lot of attractions whilst we were here - Dartmoor Zoo, national Maritime Aquarium, Living Coasts, The Modal Village and Paignton Zoo. All were fantastic and gave Oliver his first experience of wild animals! Thanks again and hope to visit in the future.

Had a fantastic week

Had a fantastic week, wonderful cottage and great owner who went above and beyond in making our stay superb. All the "little extras" we're very well received. Weather has been fab for this time of year enabling us to get out and about in this lovely part of the world. We will be back! Thanks again Lindy.

Great location;very comfortable; well equipped;quality lity furnishings

Stayed for a week long family holiday to explore the English riviera. We didn't really know the area and with so many properties available I can't remember why we decided on The Old Vicarage but we are so glad we did. The accommodation was perfect for us. Superbly equipped with high quality furnishings it made for a real comfortable home from home. Having your own garden area was also great to sit outside or play games on the lawn. The location is also excellent. 5 min walk to the beautiful village of Cockington and short walk to a very well stocked local coop, pub, post office etc in Chelston. Short drive into Torquay and surrounding towns and attractions makes it a perfect location for exploring the area. The whole holiday was pleasurable from start to finish made even more so by the friendly welcome from Lindy who was also very accommodating to our 3 yr old granddaughter providing outdoor toys and buckets and spades. Would we return? Most definitely!

We've had a lovely stay at this superb accommodation

We've had a lovely stay at this superb accommodation. Our hostess has been so helpful and welcoming - many thanks for the wine etc. So kind of you. Also, what a great location for getting around Devon. We've had lovely weather and interesting trips out and will certainly stay here again when next in Devon. Thank you again.

The Old Vicarage Torquay - A haven of tranquillity

We spent a week in May 2014 at The Old Vicarage. Our adult son joined us for a few days. The accommodation is first class, both attractive and extremely practical. The beds are especially comfortable. The location of the property was tranquil and quiet yet very near all the sights and activities of Torquay. Cockington is just a short walk down the lane. We ate at the pub there one night and despite the fact that the staff were under pressure they served us with a tasty and inexpensive dinner. Our hosts at The Old Vicarage could not have been more welcoming. Kind but not intrusive, they left a delicious welcome basket for us on arrival. One of the best places that we have ever stayed.

The Old Vicarage

We had a fabulous 2 weeks here. We love the cottage and would buy it immediately if we won the lottery! Thanks for the warm welcome and the gifts. We enjoyed them. We will NOT recommend the cottage to anyone simply because we are selfish and it would only mean that we then would not be able to get a booking anymore! You have the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in (and we have been coming to Torquay every year since 1994). We loved it here and we will certainly come back.

Wonderful!

What a wonderful place to stay - clean beyond belief, super comfortable bed, good size TV, well-stocked kitchen, blinds and curtains (with black-out linings), secluded garden area great for kids, great shower. Great location for exploring Torquay and surrounding area, Co-op nearby, 5 minute walk from beautiful Cockington village. Lovely landlady we had nice chats with. Would strongly recommend and we will be back there next time we visit Torquay. Stayed there with a 7 month old baby. Best place we've ever stayed in!

The Old Vicarage

Chosen for your proximity to Cockington and Chelston for a family Christening we found a little gem. Abandoned the cars for the weekend. Lovely walk along the coastal path. From previous visits to Collaton fishacre & Greenway (N.T.). Also Torquay Museum. The Drum Inn (Cockington) has a good menu and copes well with all ages. We hope to be back.

Recommending to friends and family

Lindy was very friendly on our arrival and the welcome gifts were a lovely addition. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It was also well located for pleasant walks and day trips further afield. We particularly enjoyed Paignton Zoo and their adorable red pandas! We shall certainly be recommending to friends and family. Many thanks.

Had a great week at The Old Vicarage

Had a great week at The Old Vicarage. From the house being 5* plus, to the lovely weather we have had. There is not much more we could have asked for. Lindy's welcome pack was first class and very much appreciated. We parked the car in the car park and never used it for the week as the train station was a 10 minute walk away. Went to Totnes and Dawlish and we visited Brixham on the ferry - £2.00 return. You can't beat that. A big thank you to Lindy & family for making us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much bother. Thanks again.

A home away from home.

Our stay could not have been more comfortable. This really did feel like a home away from home. The cottage has everything you could ask for and has been lovingly furnished with beautiful furniture and appliances. We stayed here with our 6 month old baby and it was absolutely perfectly clean, with a cot, high chair and even baby blankets and towels! Lindy was so kind and thoughtful, the fridge was full of milk, butter, tea, coffee, cake, biscuits and wine when we arrived and she really made sure we felt comfortable. We visit Torquay quite often as we have family here and we plan to stay here whenever we visit in the future. Thank you!

A superb holiday

I can only echo the many comments already made - what a fabulous place to stay! Thank you to Lindy and family for being so welcoming and helpful during our stay. The arrival pack of goodies was a great treat, Martha was delighted with the Percy Piglets! We were very grateful for the toys and buckets and spades that you provided for the children, they had a lovely time with them! The cottage really is 5 star, beautifully clean and a real home from home. The beds are very comfortable and the children loved the towels that you put out for them. Location wise this was the perfect place for us to be based for visiting Torquay and Cockington. We have been very lucky with the weather and have enjoyed some lovely walks. Babbacombe Model Village at night was a highlight for us and we also had a great time at Dinosaur World in Torquay and Paignton Zoo. A superb holiday and thank you once again for your wonderful hospitality. We will be recommending 'The Old Vicarage' to our family and friends!

The Old Vicarage

Having spent many years taking holidays in Blue Chip accommodation we can say that 'The Old Vicarage' is the best by far. In a great location this accommodation is spotlessly clean and well equipped with all we could need for our comfortable & relaxing stay. Many thanks Lindy for our 'welcome pack' and your continued hospitality during our stay. We have had great days out in Paignton, Brixham & Dartmouth. Exmouth has a long flat promenade (good for walking) & we can recommend the boat trip along the estuary. We look forward to our return in the future. Thank you.

What a wonderful week in Torquay. A perfect cottage, a very warm welcome, good weather and so many things to do with a 2 1/2 year old. Mind you, at times he did not want to leave The Old Vicarage because of the great selection of outdoor toys that Lindy had left for him to use! Thank you and we hope to be back.

Everything you could want for a perfect stay

The Old Vicarage is in a quiet, easily accessible area for an enjoyable stay in Torquay. 5 mins drive to the seafront, 8 mins to an excellent M&S, 1 minute away from a Co-Op for top ups. The cottage was spotless, décor beautiful, hospitality from owners excellent, plenty of easy parking, great garden with friendly robin. Would suit families/adults of all ages. We visited Dawlish, Teignmouth, Babbacombe (Model Village great both by day or night), Torquay (ferry to Brixham £2.00 return must be the bargain of the year for a half hour cruise each way! Chips around the harbour, big wheel, Living Coasts all great) Brixham (golden Hind ship and seawater open air pool), Paignton ( steam train to Kingswear and pirate crazy golf a must, make time to walk to the little harbour area), Dartmouth (wish we'd had time to see the castle and Agatha Christies summer retreat, had chance to go on the car ferry though) and Salcombe - my favourite! Broadsands beach is sandy, with toilets, outdoor shower and deck chairs for hire all day for £1.50 and parking close by. An exhausting holiday, excellent weather made wonderful being able to return to a lovely relaxing cottage.

We have had a great holiday

We hit the jackpot with our last minute holiday, we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you, Lindy, for the welcome goodies for ourselves and also for Ethan & Alex. You really are so thoughtful and have done more as a host than anywhere we have stayed. The house/cottage is so well equipped with extremely comfortable beds, blackout curtains, buckets, spades & toys for the boys, BBQ, and everything is so new and well maintained. In spite of the wet weather, we have had a great holiday in your lovely cottage in this great location. We will certainly recommend! Thank you very much.

Great accommodation and lovely host

We have very much enjoyed our two week family holiday here in Torquay. Great accommodation and lovely hosts - thank you Lindy and Colin. Paignton Zoo is well worth a visit and lives up to its claim to be one of the best in the country. Also had a good day out at Dartmouth. It was the best place for crabbing that we found. Also good for fish and chips, although 'Rock Fish' is a bit over priced. Thanks again.

A great cottage for a family holiday - The Old Vicarage, Torquay

Have just returned from a lovely two week holiday at The Old Vicarage at Torquay. The accommodation was fantastic. Very comfortable for a family of four and spotlessly clean. The owner, Lindy, gave us a very warm welcome and provided the perfect welcome pack - tea and cake is the best way to start a holiday!! The Old Vicarage is perfectly placed to explore the area. Torquay is well within walking distance and Cockington village is only a five minute walk away and is a quintessentially English picture postcard village. A great place to spend a day. I would highly recommend The Old Vicarage and look forward to visiting other Blue Chip properties in the future. They will certainly have something to live up to.

The Old Vicarage

We spent a week in July at The Old Vicarage with our two young children (aged 2 and 5). The accommodation was by far the best we have ever stayed in - spotlessly clean, well equipped and the owners had very kindly got us a bottle of wine, biscuits and sweets for the kids. Cockington is a beautiful village ant The Drum Inn is well worth a visit. The Old Vicarage is an excellent base for exploring the south Devon coast and all it has to offer. We would definitely recommend both the property and the area and we are planning to return in the future.

What a wonderful place to stay

What a wonderful place to stay. It's all been said before but must say again how beautifully clean and well stocked the kitchen is, great shower, lovely location, very comfortable beds et al. Also enjoyed our chats with the lovely owner. The best place we've ever stayed!

We have had a great time

Thank you once again for a really lovely stay in your holiday cottage. We have had a great time visiting many places and the weather has been kind to us, especially the first few days. Khan has enjoyed himself. We even went paddling in the sea on our last day - in our wellies. We had such a laugh running away from the waves! Great fun. Little Eden watched from his pram. Thanks again for the lovely welcome gifts, such a nice thought. We will recommend to any of our family and friends who want to stay in Torquay

Wonderful holiday...

We have had the most wonderful holiday in Torquay. From the extremely warm welcome from Lindy (including a very thoughtful welcome pack) to thoroughly enjoying traipsing around the English Riviera. Both the accommodation and location are first class for exploring and for using your leg muscles! We will definitely be back!!

The Old Vicarage

We have had a fabulous week at The Old Vicarage; our first family holiday just the three of us. The weather has been good most of the week and we have visited plenty of places including Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts and the Model Village. It has been great to get back to such fantastic accommodation at the end of our days and relax and enjoy our evenings in comfort. Thank you to Lindy for going the extra mile in making our holiday perfect including the lovely welcome gifts. We will definitely recommend this accommodation to our family and friends and we hope to be back again soon. Many thanks for a great week.

What a wonderful cottage

What a wonderful cottage situated in a beautiful location! We only wish we could stay longer! Thank you so much for the welcome gifts - what a lovely and thoughtful touch. Weather has been good to us so we have made the most of our days. Bethany loved the beaches and Paignton Zoo. It was lovely coming back to the cosy cottage in the evening though. We will be back again soon I hope! Many thanks.

Holiday at The Old Vicarage in October 2015

Our visit to the Old Vicarage was absolutely fab. We have been before a few years ago and the standard is just as good as it was then. Excellent. The owners, especially Lindy, who we saw lots of, was great and is always there to help us or if we need anything we just had to ask but we didn't need to, as all was just perfect. A lovely place to stay, we love Torquay. Will come again in a few years. Family from Sandhurst in Berkshire

Fantastic accommodation...

Fantastic accommodation, a five star warm welcome and a great location which is a short walk to the beach. This was our first time in Devon and our first family holiday in ages. Staying at The Old Vicarage was the best choice we made, what a find! We would like to thank Lindy for making our stay feel extra special. We didn't want to leave, its been great! We hope to come back at some stage, thanks again Lindy for all your help and the very warm welcome.
