The Drum Inn in the medieval village of Cockington is a magnet for dog walkers, especially on a weekend. With its picturesque appearance and traditional style the pub is surrounded by peaceful gardens dotted with tables, and there’s always a bowl of water for the four-legged visitors.
The Drum Inn is one of Devon’s most recognisable buildings, and the country park beside it means you can work up an appetite before settling down to something delicious while you admire the views. Wander down to the green and watch the cricket or stroll over to the former gamekeepers cottage and enjoy the peace and quiet, Cockington is one of those places that remains unchanged as the decades roll by.
In fact, there’s a beautiful walk from Torquay seafront to The Drum, and the footpath runs alongside a stream, woodland and there’s only one quiet road to cross. Just look for the Cockington signpost on the Livermead section of the seafront and follow the watermeadows back to Torquay.
