Description

Imagine how it would feel to wake up in a treehouse…well, Treetops is about as close as it’s possible to get without actually sleeping in one thanks to its position high above a South Devon valley and its beautiful woodland setting. Set on the peaceful Gara Mill development, Treetops enables you to experience an unspoilt location with all the perks of luxury living.

The lodge was carefully designed with relaxation in mind and it’s an ethos that’s reflected in every room. With a warm and comfortable open plan living space, it’s a welcoming place to get away from it all with a group of friends or your nearest and dearest.

It’s the details throughout this Scandinavian-style lodge that really make it memorable; blissful mattresses and a kitchen you’ll want to take home. Closing the door to Treetops at the end of the day doesn’t mean closing the door to the country views either thanks to its thoughtful floor to ceiling picture windows.

The lodge’s private decked area with private hot tub makes a tranquil spot to sit back with a drink and enjoy the sounds of the countryside and if it’s been too long since you dined outside you can test out your skills on the Indian fire pit. If you leave Treetops and wander for awhile you’ll have you pick of rolling meadows that make perfect places for picnics – just don’t forget the corkscrew.

For those days when you fancy exploring a little further afield – you’ll have the choice of an unspoilt beach at Slapton Sands, surf to write home about at Bantham and the historic town of Dartmouth - all with easy reach.

Perfect little hidden gem!!

We arrived to a very warm welcome. A lovely lady, Annie greeted us on arrival, gave us all the info we needed for accessing the local places of interest as well as shops etc and arranged for a better parking space to avoid getting stuck on the very steep hill up to the lodge. The lodge is lovely although the decking area needs treating as looking a bit tired and extremely slippery when wet. The interior is beautifully designed and well equipped and lovely and bright and airy with panoramic views all around the treetops and perfect for watching the array of birds and squirrels that visit regularly if you leave out food. Some minor points being that the mirrors in the bathrooms are set very high, not good for the shorter among us and the main door to the lodge is upside down so access is tricky as the door also faces the wrong way, meaning only one person can go in and out at any time, this was especially tricky with the suitcases but not a major inconvenience. The hot tub is also a lovely touch but the steps leading into the tub are not positioned correctly as they do not lead directly into the step into the tub. The steps can only be placed in the correct position if the tub is turned slightly as to move the steps to the correct position would block the pathway to the entrance of the lodge but again only a very minor inconvenience and fine so long as you take care. Overall, I would definitely recommend Treetops at Gara Mill if you are looking for peace and tranquillity with lovely beaches and Dartmouth and Totnes close by for delightful walks. The nearest shop is a drive away so I would also recommend taking a good supply of fresh produce and be prepared to travel a few miles for a meal out. The property description lead us to assume the Indian fire pit was at the property but it is actually in a meadow not too far away but a steep hill climb to reach but when you find it, the goats there are very friendly and amusing! Also we didn't notice any mention of the DVD player which was a shame as we would of taken some movies to enjoy had we have known but no radio. The description also stated Sky HD but only offers the main terrestrial channels, so a bit misleading as we had expected more but again not a major issue as we hadn't intended to be watching too much TV. We enjoyed a fabulous break despite a bit of wet weather and would most definitely recommend if you are looking for somewhere off of the beaten track that is clean, comfortable and very very peaceful.

Treetops at Gara Mill

Just completed a week at Gara Mill and if you are looking for a secluded spot with unspoilt views, great cabin facilities, look no further. The amenities in the cabin are second to none, including dishwasher and washing machine. Full sized oven and plenty of pots and pans, sadly lacking in other self catering accommodation we have used. We booked a lodge with a private hot tub and although this was around the back near where you parked your car and was disappointing on arrival, you soon realise that this means you are not overlooked by anyone, even if other holiday makers are coming and going to other cabins. The woodland area is ideal if you have a dog but you will need a car if you plan on leaving the site as the cabins are very secluded. Annie, our host, works really hard to make your stay as comfortable as possible, being on hand if the need arises but never 'in your face'. The hot tub was checked every day to ensure the pH and water levels were correct. Fluffy white towels and clean, crisp bedding are all included. Overall our stay was just what the doctor ordered and I would highly recommend these cabins to anyone not seeking bars, pub games and rowdy swimming pools/play areas. Seclusion at its best!
