Saunton Down

We booked wanting a simple, no-frills base to explore what we knew to be a beautiful part of the country. And got way more! In fact we had one of our best week-long breaks as a family. And this was on account of.The weather barely a cloud in the sky for the entire 7 days! The stunning location of the property. There aren't words to do justice to the view from this simple, clean, bright and comfortable property. The warmth, help and outstanding hospitality offered by the owner of the property (who lives on-site in the main part of the house). The enthusiasm and energy shown by the owner (and visiting members of his family) was nothing short of outstanding. And hugely appreciated by all four members of my family.Saunton Down provided us with a base for visiting nearby Croyde (as short walk over the headland) as well as Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Linton and Lynmouth, Mortehoe and Clovelly - which are all short car rides away.We also broke our stay up with a visit to the Wildlife and Dinosaur Park near Combe Martin which again is only a short drive away. We had a great 5 or 6 hours there for a very reasonable admission fee.And then there's the beach! Four or so miles of golden sand only a minute's walk from our front door. So, if you're looking to leave the car keys in a drawer for a week, this beach provides family members of all ages with loads to occupy them. Surfing (too calm during our stay!), paddle boarding, swimming etc. Exploring the rock pools at the foot of the cliff, or the dramatic dunes behind the beach. Or just walk along the beach. Don't know if things become busier later in the season, but we walked for a mile or two and found ourselves in complete isolation: Just us, a few gulls and a gently lapping sea! Beautiful! Great property, great location, beautiful part of the country.

Saunton Down

We had a lovely time and were very happy with the accommodation. The rooms were cozy and the kitchen very modern. The whole property had been recently refurbished to a high standard. The view from the property is superb no matter what the weather is like! We were lucky enough to meet the owner who is such a nice fellow and made us very welcome. The area is a good centre for walking and visiting attractions whilst remaining unspoilt and not overcrowded. I can strongly recommend a stay at Saunton Down.

A wonderful break in Saunton

Having booked with Blue Chip before we decided to try a different location. This time we chose Saunton which looked and sounded very nice. We were totally blown away by the views the property had and how peaceful and relaxed it was. The owner was close by but was extremely helpful and welcoming, an absolute gentleman. The property was very good and there was a swimming pool there as well. Would highly recommend both the property and surroundings as well as Blue Chip who made this such a stress free week away

Website Information

Very good location with good facilities and views of the Beach. There was no refuse/recycling information but we found the bins next door. The upstairs fire exit was not explained and we couldn't find it. Car parking was good.
