With the town’s position on the Kingsbridge Estuary in the South Hams, the annual Salcombe Sailing Regatta couldn’t be held in a more perfect setting. The area has a maritime heritage that spans back centuries, and the annual event celebrates its past in a colourful and exciting regatta each August.
Salcombe has held a sailing regatta for more than 150 years and, as you’ll find with all of the South West’s regattas, everyone’s welcome to join in and have some fun. The week-long programme is always crammed with events for the whole family, as well as maritime-themed activities, displays, swimming galas and plenty of opportunity to enjoy the water.
Salcombe Sailing Regatta means all kinds of sailing events to watch unfold on the estuary, parades, fireworks and the all-important sandcastle competition for the little ones. There’s always a torchlight procession that makes an enchanting sight and the Red Arrows often stun the crowds down on the ground as they show off their skills in the air.
This is a regatta with all the charm that makes Devon’s events stand apart from others of its kind, and Salcombe’s unspoilt beauty makes it a memorable week you’ll remember for a long time.
