It’s hard to imagine a spot more suited to watching a fireworks display than Plymouth Hoe, and it hosts one of Devon’s biggest firework displays every year on 5th November. The crowds gather from dusk to get ready for a colourful show of pyrotechnic action and there’s a fairground from midday.
The bonfire’s usually lit at 7.30pm and the fireworks follow at 8pm, but it’s a good idea to get there early and pick a spot to enjoy them (and there’ll be countdown entertainment to keep you distracted from 6pm). The famous Smeaton’s Tower, the Citadel and the war memorial will be splashed with colour as the show takes place high above, and the show’s even more dramatic thanks to a rousing musical soundtrack so expect an evening to remember.
The guys from Heart FM will be on hand throughout the evening to provide entertainment, and even the bonfire will be spectacular thanks to colourful floodlighting to make give the scene an ethereal feel. The display usually lasts for around 20 minutes, and don’t worry if you don’t get a chance to have dinner before going along as the hoe will be lined with stalls service hot food and drinks.
