There’s that day during any family holiday when all you want is the sun to shine, a sandy beach with plenty of space for the kids to run riot and some traditional amenities nearby – and Paignton Beach couldn’t be more perfect.
The sandy beach has safe waters for swimming, a Blue Flag award to its name and a Quality Coast Award, so it’s a real family favourite. Whilst you might be content just to unroll your towel and enjoy the sounds of summer while you snooze, there’s also a pier packed with amusements right in the centre of the beach. You can hear the amusements long before you reach the pier, and it’s also home to cafes serving fresh fish and all the usual favourites.
Buckets and spades are pretty much obligatory, and if you time your visit right you might even see a sand sculpture being created to inspire you on the sand castle front. Paignton Green is just a stone’s throw from the sand, and not only is it home to every child’s dream – the sprawling Geopark play area, but there’s usually a game of cricket or rounders going on during a summer’s day.
There’s easy access to the beach and the promenades, and although dogs are banned from the beach during summer there is an area for them to explore freely on the green.
