Description

Black Pit Cottage is a beautifully refurbished old stone building in a spectacular position perched just above the beach at Lee Bay with direct views over the beach and out to sea, and adjacent to National Trust land.

Internally, the property is finished to a high standard with underfloor heating throughout. The modern open plan living area also has a wood burner for cosy evenings in. The property has two double bedrooms both with en suites and sea views.

Externally, guests can enjoy two spacious patios, with a built-in barbeque and patio furniture, perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying a glass of wine whilst watching the waves. The cottage also has an outside shower which is ideal for use after a day at the beach.

The peaceful village of Lee Bay is a ten minute drive (less than four miles) from the popular beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde, and is surrounded by dramatic coastline on the edge of Exmoor. When the tide is out, Lee Bay beach is a golden sandy beach ideal for children, offering swimming, canoeing and rock pooling. Next door is the picturesque NGS garden at Cliffe, open from April to September, boasting a diverse range of habitats and stunning coastal views.

Nearby there are Blue Flag beaches and surfing at Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe. Woolacombe also has plenty of options for evening entertainment, especially in the summer months. Ilfracombe’s bustling high street and harbour are ten minutes away and the South West Coastal Path passes directly alongside the cottage with access to National Trust cliff top walks about 200 yards away.

This property especially welcomes families. It includes a cot (not including linen) and a highchair plus a stair gate, blackout blinds, toys, a selection of board games and plastic crockery for children.

Wonderful week

Black Pit Cottage

Our stay at Black Pit Cottage was very enjoyable. The owners have gone to a huge amount of time and trouble to ensure that the property is a 'home from home'. The quality of the fittings and furniture was excellent. We loved the location and enjoyed sitting on the terrace looking out over the spectacular North Devon Coast. The owners garden, which is next door, is open to the public and is part of the Natiional Garden Scheme. This is a beautiful garden, in an amazing setting, and well worth a visit.

All we hoped for

The cottage and location have been all that we hoped and expected having first seen Lee four years ago. We have enjoyed the beaches and watching the tide go in and out over the rocks. Stayed 1st of August 2015

Black Pit Cottage

This is the best self-catering property I have ever had the privilege to stay in - a real home from home with a high standard of equipment and amenities. It was in the most delightful location and a real retreat from the busy pace of city life. I would love to return some day and drink more deeply the peace and life-giving qualities of Black Pit Cottage.

Black Pit Cottage

I stayed in Black Pit Cottage with my husband and 2 children aged 4 and 6 in the summer for a week. The location was stunning - beautiful views of the sea, and the owner of the cottage who lived nearby was helpful and attentive. The cottage was well-equipped and done up to a high standard. We all had a lovely time despite the variable weather! For a family, it may be better to be nearer the main resorts, as it took a little while each day to negotiate the narrow roads to get to the likes of Saunton Sands etc.

Black Pit Cottage is lovely

Black Pit Cottage is lovely, we really enjoyed our stay. The bay is idyllic not sure how we will go to sleep now without the sound of the sea. The surrounding coastline is spectacular. Would recommend. 17 September 2015

Black Pit Cottage

We stayed at this property for a week recently, the location is perfect. Had not realised just how close to Lee Bay we would be. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage is the lovely bay which the children had great fun in. The cottage itself has been very tastefully refurbished, was spotlessly clean on arrival and had everything we required. I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here and we hope to go back again ourselves.

Black Pit Cottage

We have had the best time ever everything was just perfect, cottage views, area and even the weather was mostly dry and sunny, and may I say this is probably the first self catered cottage were every kitchen appliance has worked perfectly. Thanks ever so much.

Wonderful stay in Lee Bay

We've enjoyed the Black Pit Cottage enormously. The location is wonderful, the surroundings enticing with more than enough possibilities to walk and places to visit. The house is excellent for two couples as both sleeping rooms have their own bath rooms. We have no hesitance whatsoever to te recommend the house to others.

Black Pit Cottage

If you want first class accommodation in a totally relaxed area with peace and quite this is the place for you, clean and well equipped make this cottage one of the best we have stayed in very hilly and lanes can be narrow. Plenty to do in the area.

What a view

Black Pit Cottage is certainly a cottage with a view, a magnificent one at that. In a superb location to enjoy the peace and quiet of the North Devon coastline. Well appointed and absolutely perfect for two couples with ensuite facilities. A good location too for sightseeing. All in all a really great holiday cottage with exceptional views.

Black Pit Cottage

We recently stayed at Black Pit Cottage which is located in Lee Bay. It is not the most bustling of places if that's what you prefer but it is set in the most beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed going out to the busier towns of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe which are only a short drive away but it was great knowing we were based somewhere away from all the main holiday crowds and could come home after a day out to this gorgeous oasis. The cottage itself is nestled up a hill with the most fantastic views of Lee Bay and is a short walk away from the bay itself. Very easy to pack stuff for the beach and walk down from the cottage. Waking up every morning to the sound of the waves and that beautiful view was one of the best parts of our holiday. So relaxing. Our children also enjoyed the beach and the many rock pools and secret coves we explored when the tide was out. The cottage was fantastic - a real home from home and was very comfortable. We couldn't fault it, we were lucky with the weather and the week went by all too quickly. Would love to return again and would definitely recommend Black Pit Cottage to anyone considering staying there.

Black Pit Cottage Lee

This cottage is beautifully converted from a boathouse/store-room in the tiny quiet village of Lee in north Devon. We had the luxury of being a couple in spacious accommodation for four so each had a beautiful bathroom and plenty of clothes space. The beds in the twin room can be zipped together, but make sure you request this if you want an enormous double bed, with a gorgeous view over the bay (who wouldn't!), otherwise it would probably be made up as two singles. There was a welcome basket with a little tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, but note there is no shop in the village so take milk and supplies. This is an ideal location if you love peace and quiet, walking - and driving along single lane roads! We did find the latter bit rather tiresome, being used to city driving, and perhaps would have been out and about more if that had been easier. Lee is a rocky beach so don't expect to sit out on the sand, but wonderful for rock pools and exploring - bucket and net essential equipment. We took binoculars and enjoyed watching oystercatchers on the beach and woodpeckers feeding their young on the lawn next door. There is one pub, a short way along a gorgeous footpath, with reasonable food, and a lovely tearoom. The tearoom owner kindly supplied takeaway dinners for us a couple of times.

Black Pit Cottage

Black Pit Cottage is one of the best places we have stayed. The house was lovely and clean. And its position and views are just about perfect. We went on several great walks directly from the house (on the Coast Path and through some pretty woodland behind Lee) and the Grampus Pub in Lee is only a short walk away. Lee Bay is a very special place and Black Pit Cottage is very special too.

Great Long Weekend

Fantastic location directly overlooking Lee Bay. Arrived to find the cottage spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. Woke to the view from the bedroom window of the sea crashing up and over the sea wall at high tide. Ideally placed for great coastal walks directly from the cottage. We were just a little disappointed that previous suggestions in the visitors comments book, about things we also noticed, had not been acted upon. This aside, we would definitely return.

Black Pit Cottage, Lee

We had a wonderful stay in Lee at Black Pit cottage. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and the location outstanding: breath taking views from almost every window. The double en-suite arrangement is very convenient and the downstairs layout, with the airy spacious kitchen and adjoining comfortable leather sofas, making an attractive social space in which to cook, eat and chat. We would highly recommend this for the stunning views of the sea, spectacular viewpoint for sunrise and just general ambience and comfort.
