Gara Rock

Once we had made our way through all the narrow Devon lanes we came upon this haven of peace and tranquility. The views are amazing, the beach deserted and the onsite facilities are fabulous. If you don't want to take the car out,the walk down to the ferry over to Salcombe is a delight. We chose the shorter route through the woods on a bridal path,(we didn't do the coastal route). In half an hour you can be in Salcombe at some excellent eating places.Buses can take you further afield if you want. The indoor pool is warm and welcoming. The cottage has all the equipment and furnishings that you would expect in a home from home. Scones awaited our arrival, a lovely touch. Would thoroughly recommend this site if you are fond of walking, swimming and just getting away from it all.

Amazing Gara Rock reinvented!

We have spent many happy family holidays at Gara Rock in the past but his was the first time we have visited the new development and we were very impressed. The décor and furnishings were lovely and our view from the garden a delight. We tried the outdoor pool and the spa and both proved a big hit. We also ate at the cafe. Two minor criticisms were that as the place is so secluded it could do with a small shop - even if its just for basics like bread, milk and wine! We came prepared as we knew from past experience how remote Gara Rock is. And my son and daughter would have appreciated a bar or some gathering place in the evening. I know it is still early days and perhaps you have plans in mind. Also we would have benefited from a site plan as it took us 24 hours to work out the entrance to the indoor pool! But all in all it was a delightful stay and the cottage was immaculate when we arrived. We appreciated the cream tea too and its nice to find essentials like loo paper and soap. We had a great time and will hope to return in the future. We would thoroughly recommend it. But not to the old or infirm!

Stunning Location! - Cottage 4 Gara Rock

We just spent 9 nights at Gara Rock. First visit andI would certainly go back. The cottage we rented was super - excellent quality, well kitted out with everything you need. Amazing views. We chose Gara for the setting and facilities. You can never guarantee the weather so we opted for something with indoor and outdoor pool facilities and also somewhere you can take the dogs (we have 2). As it happens, we had amazing weather nearly every day. You can walk to the beach in less than 10 minutes down the hill - beautiful walk through the grazing sheep overlooking the cliffs and beach. Slightly slower to walk back but well worth it. I couldn't believe how quiet it was for half term. Very few people which made it even more special. Children spent 65% on the beach, 25% at the outdoor pool and used the indoor pool and jacuzzi just for fun when they felt like a change. Everything is beautifully presented - almost spa like, with shampoos, soaps and hairdryers at the indoor pool. We popped into Salcombe a few times - easy drive to East Portlemouth, 1 mile away, parked up and hopped on the little ferry that runs every half and hour. You must do the sailing with Zoe and also we went Coasteering with Ali at SeanShore which was a brilliant experience and again, stunning scenery. There's a lot to do, from walking, sailing, paddle boarding, coasteering etc. It really was a brilliant break. Negatives - you have no private outdoor space so if you open your patio door the dogs can just disappear! Our dogs are used to freedom so if you happen to have people right next to you who don't have dogs this can be a bit of an issue. A solution would be to fence off the private patio areas, even with picket fencing. This would stop dogs roaming and you can at least leave a door open. 2. Cafe on site very expensive! 3. Very narrow lanes and no shop close so if you need eggs, bread or milk it's really quite a hike. I did an online order so had most things but it would be good if there was a small store on site just for basics. We did end up buying milk from the cafe in an apple juice carton! Really though, a small price to pay for marvellous holiday. If you're looking for a setting - Gara Rock is quite beautiful!
