Excellent accommodation in a stunning setting

The trip along the (Very) narrow Devonshire lanes is well worth the effort once you pull up at Gara Rock. The view is not to be beaten. The apartments are magnificent haven in an isolated spot. and are laid out well. The parking is handy for unloading. The apartments and cottages are all very contemporary. Everything was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. The kitchen and lounge were well laid out, TV / DVD facilities and a great wireless Bose unit for playing music. My 12 year old boy fell in love with the place - properly unpacked his bags for a 2 night stay - he really "moved in" and didn't want to leave. The view is astounding!! We were helped along by the weather undoubtedly, but on the balcony on 1st Nov in shorts and T shirt and feeling hot!... The other on-site facilities are excellent. A nice cafe / bar / restaurant - though the menu was a little "off-beat", but good to have somewhere to go. The pool complete with steam room and sauna is beautiful. It's a little walk down to the beach if you fancy it and I ran around the headland to the Salcombe estuary. A short drive on the saturday morning to catch the foot ferry to Salcombe for a wander round and a lovely pub lunch at the Ferry basking in more sunshine - an easy and delightful day out. We had a lovely few days - great place - great location - great accommodation - great accommodation. We will be back!!

Great for:

Peaceful location with stunning views but.......

Gara Rock is perfect for a qiuet and relaxing break. The views from the apartments are lovely, the cafe/ restaurant is also perfectly placed to admire the wonderful views. However, the approach via extremely narrow country lanes can be daunting when there is only room for one vehicle. There is no mob phone signal but wi fi wasn't a problem during our stay as there was low occupancy. Having highlighted those negatives, it would not deter us from a return visit.

Gara Rock short break

A perfect destination for a short break in March. The cliff top location and proximity to the coast path meant we could be out walking within minutes when the weather was fine, and if it turned nasty we were snug and cosy in our warm apartment with the heated swimming pool and hot tub to indulge in on the site.

GARA ROCK

I have been returning to the South Hams on holidays since I was a boy and little seems to have changed - this is its charm. In a world where most change seems for the worst, the South Hams area continues to sympathetically develop and improve the properties and facilities for its residents and visitors. Yes you can moan about the availability of 4g and Phone signal but unless you are trying to work this is a minor inconvenience. Gara Rock was a hotel when I began visiting this area and it is now a perfectly located and beautifully presented group of apartments for holiday visits. With both indoor and outdoor pools the clemency of the weather does not matter and you can walk the south coast path in either direction as the site is situated perfectly between East Prawle and East Portsmouth. Great beaches are within easy reach at Mill Bay and Gara Rock and you can even walk and ferry your self to Salcombe very easily if food, drink or civilisation is needed. The fishing tackle shops of Salcombe are now sadly clothing/Sailing shops but it has lost none of its charm. If East Portsmouth had been on the Costas, it would be now a carbuncle of high rise properties and home to stag and hen weekends...blessedly the SH District Council have acted as responsible custodians of this beautiful part of our country and for this they should be applauded. Where development is taking place it is to restore or replace older properties in a non invasive way and the Gara Rock development is testimony to this approach. Well done to everyone involved and thanks to the local people, pubs, shops, builders, ferryman etc who are all so welcoming whenever we visit.
