This otter sanctuary and butterfly farm is a peaceful day out, and it offers the chance to see otters and butterflies in their natural habitats. The butterfly farm houses hundreds of brightly coloured butterflies in tropical surroundings, and the glass otter enclosures enable visitors to watch them swimming underwater. There’s always excitement at feeding times when you can watch the keeper dishing out meals, and the whole attraction is designed so that visitors can see the animals as clearly as possible.
Located just outside the stunning Dartmoor National Park, Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies also sell discounted tickets for the South Devon Steam Railway to its visitors. Hop aboard for a scenic steam train journey beside the River Dart, and you can also buy discounted tickets for Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, which you can reach using the same train.
Leave a whole day aside to ensure you have plenty of time for everything and you’ll experience Buckfastleigh and the local area at their best. The best part of the three attraction deal is that you can leave the car in the car park and enjoy discovering the Devon countryside by train and on foot. Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies is open most days throughout the winter, but please note that butterflies don’t come out until the spring when the weather warms up enough.
