Description

Cider Barn at Park Mill Farm is a beautiful period barn conversion delicately converted it provides a tasteful and unique home from home. The original beamed, vaulted ceilings, stylish high quality furniture and underfloor heating make this the perfect blend of traditional and modern living.

The Park Mill Farm cottages are situated in a magical riverside setting, less than a mile from Chulmleigh centre, with 20 acres of lush fields, woods and parkland where you are free to roam along with the abundant wildlife. From the viewing area on top of the hill with bench, to the river and lakeside areas, there is plenty to explore.

Chulmleigh is a Saxon hilltop village made up of thatched cottages, traditional pubs and a small collection of independent shops. There is a kids’ play park and dining options consist of three pubs in the town, a cosmopolitan restaurant and an Indian restaurant/takeaway.

Chulmleigh town centre is now a conservation area and the rich grassland found here is home to the largest population of otters in any natural area in England. The area provides access to an abundance of leisure activities including walking, cycling, fishing, golf and horse riding along with a number of historic houses and gardens in the vicinity.

Guests can enjoy the best of coast and country with Dartmoor and Exmoor nearby, as well as the North Devon coast in one direction and the cathedral city of Exeter in the other, all within an hour’s drive.

Just a short drive away from Park Mill Farm Cottages, you can experience the range of luxurious facilities on offer at Highbullen Golf and Country Club including tennis courts, a pool, fitness suite, and a range of spa treatments if you fancy being pampered.

Fishing at Park Mill Farm

"This is an accommodating little river in a lovely Devon valley where time really does seem to stand still."Mike Weaver, Trout And Salmon magazine, Feb. 2009.

There are two rivers (The Little Dart and Huntacott)  meandering through the grounds  and a private fishing lake where guests can enjoy free fly and coarse fishing and catch Carp,  Rudd, Chubb, Roach, Brown Trout and Tench. There is also complimentary fishing on both rivers where Brown Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon can be caught together with Coarse fish.

Each cottage has a working fire and bags of wood can be purchased locally.

Cider Barn, Park Mill Farm

A beautiful and tranquil holiday was improved by staying in Cider Barn - a stunning and sympathetically rendered restoration. We enjoyed it immensly and used the cottage to journey to Croyde and The Braunton Burrow Biosphere. We'd recommend the property to our friends and will be returning.

A cosy stay away from the everday bustle.

Lovely grounds, really enjoyed the walks around the lake and along the bridle path into town. Went to Ilfracombe for the coastal views and pottered around the shops at Barnstaple. Plenty of hours spent playing with the fire and ducking the beams but ultimately a cosy stay away from the everyday bustle.

Cider Barn, Park Mill Farm

Chulmleigh, not only did we get a fantastic meal there, we also took home a take away pizza. The best pizza we have ever tried outside our local stomping ground! (and the best service). Sue and Ray are both wonderfully welcoming people. Ray is the Man for local knowledge!! We are both so gutted we didn't book longer!! We will definitely be back in a few months (The local cider is awesome!!) (Oh and if you are looking for a decent Devon cream Tea then look no further than Park Mill Farm)

Cider Barn, Park Mill Farm

Cider Barn, part of Park Mill Farm cottages is a tranquil cottage set in the Devon countryside. A little bit of driving is needed to explore some of the lovely places around. The cream tea on arrival was just lovely after a 3 and a half hour drive. The wood burning stove made the cottage lovely and warm and Sue and Ray were around to chat and recommend places to go. Would definitely recommend a drive to RHS Rosemoor and the cliff railway at Lynton and Lynmouth. The pizzas at the pub in the village are as good as their reputation and a little further away, the Fox and Hounds does a lovely meal, a little more expensive than a usual pub meal but excellent service and a lovely setting.

Beautiful and charming accommodation

Beautiful and charming accommodation What a fantastic area to sightsee and explore. We have been fortunate enough to have amazing weather all week. My partner is an avid fisherman and we have had plenty of time to fish and he is still fishing as I write this. Sue and Ray are both wonderfully welcoming people. Ray is the man for local knowledge. The local Cider is awesome, oh and if you are looking for a decent Devon cream Tea then look no further than Park Mill Farm. A week so romantic that it may have changed the course of our lives forever.

A week so romantic that it may have changed the course of our lives forever. Elsewhere you will read reviews of the locality and Cider Barn itself and all those things are true. In no small part this contributed to the landscape of our getaway, mostly though, it was spent in a haze of bliss. I hope she will one day marry me.

The Best Week

We have had simply the best week at Park Mill, Cider Barn. The weather has been good for the most part. Our 1 year old has loved the surroundings and picking flowers. The fishing has been great, we caught 18 Carp to 8lb, do not underestimate how close they come in! Trying fly fishing on the river was lovely, missed a few bites, will have to come back to try again!. Thanks to Ray and Sue for being so accommodating and helpful, its the nicest place we've stayed. See you next year!

Booking experience

We booked a holiday through Blue Chip Holidays and they are easily the most efficient holiday company we have ever booked with. Extremely prompt response to our booking. All details were correct first time and were clear and easy to understand. Excellent details given of location of our holiday destination with extremely accurate directions and details of how to obtain keys to the property. The text from Blue Chip a few days before the holiday reiterating the arrangements was very useful and the 'have a wonderful holiday' a lovely personal touch. Would not hesitate booking with them again - fantastic.

Wow! A very enjoyable and peaceful week. Kingfisher playing up the river was a wonderful sight. Clovely and Lynton are wonderful and walking along the river at Lynmouth (Watersmeet) was stunning. Devon Badger Watch is a must. Fantastic to sit and watch badgers only a few feet away.

Cider Barn, Park Mill Farm

A cost retreat, which was a great base from which to explore Devon and Cornwall. If you're passing through Braunton then definitely make a pit-stop at Squires Fish & Chip restaurant. We then walked our lunch off at Saunton Sands Beach. A day's trip out to Padstow is well worth the drive and of course it's illegal not to eat at one of Rick Stein's outlets. For trips on where to go, make sure to catch Ray whilst he is pottering around. Invaluable advice. Thanks.

It's an oasis of peace and calm.

Ray and Sue have created a little bit of magic in Cider Barn cottage. It slowly works on the guests who eventually realise that the cares of the world have been replaced by the peace of the countryside relaxed and calm. We needed to get away from the routine and re-charge our batteries and the Cider Barn and it's grounds certainly helped us to do that, it's an oasis of peace and calm. Thank you Ray and Sue.

Relax and forget there is a world out there.

Relaxation, peacefulness and enjoyment were all the order of the week in our stay at Cider Barn. The location is one of splendid isolation mixed with modern amenities and excellent accommodation. The cottage itself was delightful with everything you needed. The barn was beautifully and efficiently designed to cater for all your needs whilst at the same time giving you a genuine, cottage experience. The location gave you a wonderful sense of isolation in amongst farm fields with its own lake and Lakeland walks. At the same time it was only minutes away from the local village of Chumleigh that had its own wonderful charm with easy access to main routes in and around Devon. John and Sue the owners of the barns were lovely people who delivered a perfect balance of letting you know they were there for you if you needed anything but left you to your own enjoyment. Excellent sums it all up. We will be back.
