The Smuggler’s Haunt couldn’t really be more of a Devon local if it tried, so if you fancy wetting your whistle in an authentic watering hole visited by generations of residents, visitors and characters (with your dog of course) then this has got to be the one.
Just a few minutes’ walk from the fishing town’s harbour, the pub may look quiet and unassuming but it once played a key role in the area’s smuggling scene. This dog friendly Devon pub is packed with tales and legends that make a visit an experience as well as a stop for refreshment.
You’ll find the pub tucked in a side street not far from Brixham’s harbour ( two minute walk in fact), and there’s a great walk from there to Berry Head Nature Reserve – a jutting area of headland with panoramic views out to sea. Dogs are always welcome, although owners should look out for the cattle grids around the site.
There’s a dog friendly restaurant at the Smuggler’s Haunt too, so it’s a great place to enjoy a bite before or after heading to this windswept beauty spot. The pub dates back more than three centuries, so expect a welcoming atmosphere and a true Devon welcome.
