Description

Adipit Cottage is a two bedroom cottage situated near to the town of Bideford, within the North Devon countryside. The cottage is set within five acres of grounds which are home to the Owners' chickens and sheep.

Internally, the property is traditionally furnished with a cottage feel which includes a wood burner within a stone fireplace. Externally, guests can enjoy the garden and patio area, along with taking in the beauty of the surrounding countryside. A cot, high chair and stair gate are provided for family bookings.

Life in Bideford has historically been based around river life with a thriving import and export industry during the 16th Century with several street names and a hill named in honour of Sir Walter Raleigh. Take inspiration from the acclaimed novel Tarka the Otter and set out on a section of the 180 mile long Tarka Trail, which is both cycle and walker friendly.

There are a selection of unique family attractions in the area sure to entertain those of all ages, including the Big Sheep in Bideford, home to sheep racing and dog and duck trials. For thrill seekers, Bideford’s Milky Way Adventure Park offers an all-inclusive day of family fun with roller coasters, indoor play areas, regular shows and a gruelling assault course. Within five miles are the nearest beaches at Westward Ho!

The owners provide guests with freshly laid eggs, as well as a welcome treat on arrival of a cream tea.

Adipit Cottage

This lovely cottage is well situated for visiting the North Devon area. It is in a fabulously quiet and peaceful valley with everything you need for a self-catering holiday. Dennis and Gilly are lovely hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them though they are certainly not intrusive. The cottage is spotlessly clean and one of the best holiday rentals we have stayed in.

Adipit Cottage, Buxton Brewer, Devon

Very nice cottage with a great wood burning stove, very welcome at Christmas. The welcoming bottle of wine, eggs, mince pies and cream were a lovely touch. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed, with the exception of a tea strainer. It must be beautiful there in the summer. We had a very relaxing 3 day break after a rather harrowing run-up to Christmas. Many thanks to the owners. Kate and Tony Hathway

Adipit Cottage

A week of wonderful weather at Gilly's and Dennis' cottage. The cottage and grounds are lovely and beautifully kept. Thank you both so much. A fantastic place for children, my 3 year old daughter Isabella loved the chickens and sheep and it was lovely that she was able to run around free and enjoy herself. Lots to keep her entertained here, games, toys, DVDs and books so I could have a nice break in the garden! Gilly and Dennis are wonderful hosts and we would love to come back. Isabella has already said she wants to live here!

Adipit

What a week we had. Dennis & Gilly were magnificent hosts (friendly, helpful and always on hand with a great suggestion for a day out) and the cottage is just great. If you are looking for local amenities this cottage may not be for you, it really is in the middle of nowhere, but if you want peace and quiet then it is perfect. To clarify it is a mile down the lane to the main road, then about two miles to the village, where there is only one limited shop, but the pub is great and very child friendly. Bideford is five miles away but due to the country roads this can take around twenty minutes, but really don't be put off by this, we arranged a Tesco delivery for the afternoon we arrived and that took care of most things we needed. But it is quite central for North Devon/ Cornwall, both Woolacombe beach and Bude are about 45 mins away in opposite directions. Our three year old loved every minute. Chasing the sheep and chickens, and Dennis' tractor is his new favourite thing in all the world. If you want a peaceful but enjoyable getaway then you will not do better than a stay at Adipit

Adipit Cottage

We have had a fantastic week here at Adipit. The perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary! It's a beautiful cottage, in a perfect location. We have enjoyed waking up to the sheep and the birds each morning. It's so peaceful here. We now understand exactly why previous visitors have returned time and time again, and we intend to the same as soon as we can. We both feel very relaxed and stress free! Thank you so much Gilly and Dennis. We hope to see you again very soon.

Adipit Cottage

We had a lovely first visit to Adipit Cottage and will definitely be returning for another visit as soon as possible. It is a beautiful cottage, situated in such a peaceful location. We saw lots of wildlife including pheasants, sheep and chickens. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well-equipped. It is such a relaxing space to spend a lovely week. Thank you both very much and hope to see you soon.

Adipit Cottage

This is our 3rd return to Adipit and yet another amazing holiday. The kids had been asking for months how long till we go to Dennis and Gilly. So they were very excited when we finally arrived to see them. We are always made to feel so out home during our stay. We are all very sad to be leaving today and cannot wait for next year. Thank you so much Dennis and Gilly!

A home away from home in idyllic surroundings.

We have been renting UK cottages for many years now and Adipit is without doubt the best we have ever had. It is a very pretty cottage in idyllic surroundings where the only sounds are of the birds, the nearby sheep and the pheasants which wander around the garden. The cottage is really well equipped with everything you could need and is well maintained and spotlessly clean. Upon arrival on a cold April afternoon, there was a log fire burning in the lounge and a delicious cream tea waiting for us along with a dozen eggs. Gill and Dennis, the owners, who live in the property opposite, made sure we had everything we needed but thereafter were very discreet. However, it was good to know they were on hand if needed and they were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is well placed for exploring Devon and into Cornwall and we will definitely visit Adipit again.

Our Holiday at Adipit Cottage.

We had a splendid week's holiday at this location. There was plenty to do in the area and because the weather was particularly kind to us, we could really enjoy being outside. The stunning scenery of the North Devon coastline is spectacular and we loved watching the surfers into the early evenings as well. Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Morte Hoe and Point, Ilfracombe and Hartland Quay to name a few. Damien Hirst's statue of Verity in Ilfracombe Harbour is definitely a talking point....we are still undecided! Nearer to the Cottage there is all the history of Bideford and Appledore. A trip to the Northam Burrows Country Park where we saw lots of skylarks. RHS Rosemoor is also very close by - beautiful. We hired bikes from Bideford to cycle on the Tarka Trail. Very easy as you can walk the bike straight up onto the trail. Dartington Crystal Factory and shop. Most importantly, after a long day out we could return to the peace and tranquility of Adipit Cottage and a glass of wine. Dennis and Gilly are lovely hosts and very welcoming. They have been there for many years and it was interesting to read the Visitors Comments Book dating back, I think, to the early 90's. Families returning on a regular basis. Just a flavour of our holiday but one of our most enjoyable.

Adipit Cottage

Arrival to a very warm welcome with fresh scones, clotted cream and jam! Eggs for breakfast too! Delish. Fresh flowers and log burner, even a basket full of toys! Its only our first day here and we don't want to leave. It's like home and very cosy. Love the views from the kitchen windows, lambs, chickens and lovely sun shine too, what more could we ask for. Looking forward to exploring the area. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Relaxing break at Adipit Cottage

From the minute we arrived at Adipit cottage we felt totally relaxed. The cottage itself is incredibly pretty from the outside and does not disappoint inside - very clean and spacious. The views are lovely and the peace and quiet of being away from the hustle and bustle of life make for a very relaxing break. Dennis and Gilly are a lovely couple who make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive and provide thoughtful touches such as a cream teas and fresh eggs. There is plenty to do in the area. We especially enjoyed cycling the Tarka Trail, Marwood Hill Gardens and Bude but have left plenty to do for a future visit to Adipit Cottage.

A cream tea waiting in the kitchen and the wood burner warming the lounge. How wonderful. The location is stunning. Sheep and chickens to make friends with, fields to roam in but close to the coast and local shops. Lovely place.

A truly relaxing location

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Adipit cottage, it was a very relaxing and peaceful location yet within easy reach of most of the north of Devon. If you love the countryside you will love this cottage, the wildlife the surrounding countryside and the farm animals who come to look you over every so often! The hosts are a very helpful but not intrusive, altogether they contribute to the overall enjoyment with their local knowledge. We will hoefully return soon and enjoy the experience all over again

Adipit Cottage

We have enjoyed a lovely relaxing sun filled week here at Adipit. Gilly and Dennis were the perfect hosts offering a warm welcome and a friendly smile wherever we saw them. The cottage is beautifully positioned and our son Jack has learnt a new word this week."sheep". He has loved visiting them every day and the chickens too. What a wonderful, safe, educating place for a little one to reside in for a week. We'll be sure to recommend Adipit to our friends and wish you both continued success and happiness!

Dennis and Gilly thank you so much for our lovely stay at Adipit : A perfect wind down after a very busy Christmas. The cottage was amazing. We loved the log burner every evening after our walks on the beach. We are sad to be leaving but will be back very soon. If you are feeling lazy the breakfast's at "The RockPool" Cafe at Westward Ho are the best! Thanks once again!

Lovely cottage in idyllic location

We had a lovely stay at this enchanting cottage, a real haven of peace and quiet, set in beautiful surroundings. Very friendly and approachable owners and the added bonus of the farm chickens and sheep grazing around the cottage. The cream tea on arrival was most welcome, as were the fresh eggs. We will return.
