Croyde BayAt the other end of the county, Croyde Bay is another Devon beach that remains hugely popular. Croyde Bay is one of the best surfing beaches in the UK, and its waves lure boarders and thrill seekers all year round. This west-facing beach benefits from plenty of swell, quality sand banks and powerful waves which combine to provide consistently impressive surfing conditions. Croyde village itself sits around half a mile from the bay and its modest size means that it can feel very busy in high season. Surfing aside, the beach is a picturesque length of sand which backs onto sand dunes.

Bigbury-on-SeaAnother fine beach in Devon can be found in the South Hams. Bigbury-on-Sea in Kingsbridge is a huge sand and shingle beach with plenty to see and do during beach holidays in Devon! The beach benefits from a secluded location, with its own spacious car park, as well as access for the disabled and all the expected facilities. One of the highlights of a visit to Bigbury-on-Sea is the opportunity to ride its sea tractor and visit Burgh Island! Also reachable on foot at low tide, the island is the setting for much of Agatha Christie’s work and it’s easy to see where she got her inspiration from.

Paignton SandsAnother of Torbay’s popular Devon beaches, Paignton Sands is Paignton’s largest beach and fronts the pretty town, interrupted only by the original pier. The fun-filled Paignton Sands is well-served by all the conveniences needed for an enjoyable family day on the beach, and its pier at the centre is a great attraction whatever the weather! The pier dates back to 1879 and still provides great fun for all ages, including refreshments, crazy golf, mega slide, ten pin bowling a shooting gallery and much more.
