Okehampton Farmer's MarketRegular Dartmoor events such as the Okehampton Farmer’s Market have plenty to offer visitors to the area as well as residents. The third Saturday of the month sees Okehampton Farmer’s Market arrive on St James Chapel Square in Okehampton. The Okehampton Famer’s Market sees more than 20 local producers gather each month to showcase their fine food. This event is also a chance for guests of luxury self-catering Dartmoor accommodation to stock up on some fresh ingredients for their stay, or also to indulge in some tasty treats.

Ten Tors 2011Ten Tors 2011 will take place on Saturday 14 May and Sunday 14 May, when a total of 2,400 young people leave Okehampton and aim to walk over ten tors in a display of endurance and team work. The annual event is organised by the British Army and includes teams from schools and clubs around the country, although many of the entrants are from the West Country. Thousands of eager spectators turn up to spectate the event every year, and although it is not officially a race the challenge is taken very seriously but most who enter.

60th Anniversary WalkIf your new year’s resolution to get in shape could do with a kickstart, this Dartmoor walk is set for just the right time! Monday 3 January will see the first of numerous walks throughout 2011 to mark the 60 anniversary of beautiful Dartmoor. The walk will start at 10am and last for 4 hours, and walkers should gather in Haytor car park to meet the guide. The walk will cover 6m of Dartmoor, and is fully supervised by a professional guide. Dogs are not permitted on guided Dartmoor walks. Those after Dartmoor events that include opportunity to get to know the National Park have found the perfect one.

Father Christmas Visits Widecombe-in-the-MoorChildren in Widecombe on Saturday 18 December should keep their eyes peeled, as rumour has it that Father Christmas himself will be passing through the town riding a pony and trap! During an event organised by the National Trust, all children under 11 will receive a free gift, and there will be activities including biscuit decoration, the chance to make Christmas cards and fir cone decoration – so little ones will be well prepared for the big day! Festive refreshments will include mulled wine, mince pies, hot chestnuts and punch. There will also be a local market with food samples, and a raffle in aid of local charities.
