Just three miles from the famous River Cottage HQ, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen tempts fans of the hit series and foodies from all over the country. The canteen and deli use the River Cottage ethos to serve up the finest fresh produce the South West has to offer, and they do it with all the style you’d expect from the celebrity team.
The restaurant’s set right in the heart of the Axe Valley and the River Cottage chefs serve up the tastes that make the South West stand out from the rest of the nation. The canteen restaurant’s open for breakfast, lunches, evening meals and Sunday roasts and families are welcome too so it manages to retain the warm atmosphere of a traditional farmhouse kitchen.
Aside from offering one of the most unique dining experiences in the country, River Cottage Canteen also hosts special events throughout the year which include live music while you dine. You’ll need to reserve your table in advance as the canteen’s extremely popular and it’s one of those dining experiences that’s not quite like any other. The Sunday roast menu is one of the canteen’s most popular sittings and it’s based around Gatcombe farm loin of pork, vegetables straight from the farm and eight hour Higher Hacknell roasted lamb.
