For many of us, dog walking in Cornwall is all about the beaches, and Whitsand Bay is one of the best. Dogs are allowed on this beach all year round, so don't forget to pack his favourite ball for this stunning walk.
Time your walk for low tide and you’ll find four miles of uninterrupted sand at your feet as a series of coves connect, but just keep an eye on the tide as there’s a danger of being cut off. Whitsand Bay is found in the corner of Cornwall that tends to be missed from the top ten lists of the most beautiful and fashionable spots, but in many ways it’s more ‘Cornwall’ than some of the better known areas and certainly as striking.
Access to the beach can be a little tricky as you’ll need to make your way down one of the steep cliff paths, but Tregantle Fort which leads to Long Sands Beach is probably the easiest, and you’ll be glad you made the effort once you step on to the sand.
Visit Whitsand Bay on the right day and you’ll find it reverberating with the sound of silence, leaving nothing to distract you from the waves crashing and the chance to experience true Cornwall with your dog. We’d advise against swimming off this beach as the currents can be dangerous.
