Description

Mowhay Barn is a detached stone barn conversion on a working farm, set in over an acre of grounds. From here, there are excellent far reaching views of the River Tamar, the city of Plymouth and beyond towards Dartmoor.

Internally, the charming barn is set over three floors and offers spacious open plan living spaces with fantastic rolling countryside views. The beautiful conservatory, furnished with seating, is the perfect place to relax after a long day exploring. Externally, the large lawned garden is furnished with a table, chairs, sun loungers and barbeque. The garden gives stunning views of the rolling countryside which extends towards Dartmoor.

Torpoint acts as the gateway to Cornwall with boats ferrying passengers across this scenic stretch of the River Tamar. Most recently the area has gained significant exposure thanks in large to the National Trust property Antony House, the location for filming of Walt Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, which is open to the public.

The historic villages of Kingsand and Cawsand offer a haven of peace and tranquillity. Relax on the beach or in one of the village pubs or cafes or take a stroll through the narrow streets of colour washed cottages and shops that follow. Mount Edgecombe House and Country Park are within easy reach and provide a great day out for all the family with stunning Grade I Cornish gardens and the historic house to explore.

Visit the historic naval city of Plymouth which is just across the river. With highlights including Smeaton’s Tower on Plymouth Hoe, The Barbican area home to the Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrim Fathers departed and Saltram Estate positioned alongside the River Plym. Plymouth is also home to the National Marine Aquarium, Britain’s deepest aquarium tank providing fun for all the family no matter what the weather. No visit to Devon would be complete without visiting rugged Dartmoor National Park, granite moorland flowing with panoramic beauty and wildlife around every corner.

A week of solid sunshine in a magical place

This is a perfect spot - peaceful (apart from the sheep), with lovely views and nesting swallows. We were very lucky with the weather, had a wonderful holiday and came home relaxed and with batteries recharged. Mowhay isn't as far into Cornwall as we might normally have chosen, but it's very handy for Plymouth, Looe etc - and you don't have to sit in queues on the A30 to get there! Kingsand and Cawsand (a couple of miles away) are lovely places. Kate, the owner is friendly and welcoming, but low-key - there to help, but not at all intrusive. The house was excellent. Huge, well-kept garden and a very spacious interior full of gorgeous furniture, paintings and ornaments. What impressed me is the quality and attention to detail. This is not your regular holiday let - no drawers full of cheap stuff from Ikea here - this is a house that's cared for and made for people to live well in - even if it's only for a week. Wish it had been longer!

Mowhay Barn was everything we thought it would be and more!

The barn is so idyllically situated, nothing but hills and sheep, beautiful trees and flowers and on clear days you even have sea view. On the other hand you needn't go very far to be in the city, go grocery shopping or gather some other wonderful Cornwall impressions. We loved our stay. Our landlord was so very heartfelt and helped us in any way we needed her to. All in all it was just perfect! Thank you very much.

Mowhay Barn, Millbrook

Mowhay Barn is an amazing place to have a holiday. The Barn is spacious, comfortable, full of character and has all the facilities needed for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. The garden is just perfect and the location is just stunningly beautiful. It is a little heaven hidden amongst Cornish hills. For those that need to stay On-line the WiFi was superb. The location is also convenient for exploring Cornwall with Plymouth and Exeter nearby for the shops and within an hour or two driving to just about every Cornish seaside location. Looe is just a 30 minutes drive. There are plenty of excellent Restaurants and Pubs although none are really walking distance from the Barn.

Mowhay Barn

Just come back from a weekend away with family. Everyone enjoyed their stay, the barn is set in beautiful well kept gardens. The kitchen is well equipped, the dishwasher is a bonus for six people. The weather was cold when we stopped so we did not use the conservatory as it was rather chilly in there, but come the warmer days it would be a delight to sit in it. When we arrived a cream tea was set at the table for us which was a nice touch. There is more than enough room for 6 adults in the barn. Would recommend it to family & friends.
