The Tamar Valley Donkey Park is one of the South West days out that has a fantastic story behind it – not to mention a collection of friendly rescue donkeys waiting to greet visitors. Julie and David Gibbons decided that it was time for a change, sold their business and their home in Buckinghamshire and took on the sanctuary with no experience. Now it’s their lives and they wouldn’t have things any other way, so a visit to the park is inspirational as well as great fun.
The family work hard to make sure the park cares for as many donkeys as possible and that they make for a friendly day out with something for everyone, and their barn means that you can be sure of a donkey ride for the little ones come rain or shine.
Close to Tavistock, the Tamar Valley Donkey Park is open daily from March to September and on weekends from November to March. There are dozens of donkeys to get to know during a visit, and each one has its own name and personality. Wish you could have one of your own? Well don’t forget that they’re all available for adoption – but you’ll have to leave them at the park we’re afraid!
It’s not all about the donkeys though, and additional animals at the park include ponies, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs who love to be fed and petted. Tamar Valley Donkey Park is a unique family attraction where there’s always something going on, so make sure it’s on your to do list during a holiday in Cornwall.
