Here’s an idea, you drop the kids off for half a day during your Cornwall holiday, they have a great time and when you collect them they’ve learnt some cooking skills. That’s the genius that’s Grotty Gourmet cookery school in St Austell, and parents are welcome to leave the children for their class or stay and watch them give cooking a go.
The school has OFSTED registered childcare experts on hand to supervise all children so they’ll have an unforgettable experience in safe hands. Children’s cooking classes are £25 for an hour, and the cost covers all ingredients, drinks, a carry bag they can take away with them and an apron. They’ll also receive a certificate to reward their efforts. Grotty Gourmet is a great activity if you get a wet day during your holiday, and many choose it to mark a birthday or entertain a group of children during their stay nearby.
The classes are suitable for children of any age (from tiny babies all the way up to towering teens), and there’s nothing tots love more than mashing, handling and splatting food. Classes are kept as small as possible (it’ll often just be you and your child if possible) and no knives are used in any of the classes. The baby classes are all about letting them get the feel and taste for the food, the over 5s classes let children choose their own direction and start to get creative in the kitchen – and those aimed at teenagers help push them forward a little according to their abilities.
Grotty Gourmet is a unique activity that can be good fun for all ages and the whole family, so book your class before you arrive to start getting your little ones into the swing of cooking.
