Antony House is an imposing National Trust property with a rich history and it sits quietly in the countryside near Plymouth. If you get the feeling that you've seen the exterior of the house and its well-kept gardens somewhere before then you might just recognise them from the set of Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland. The elegant house and gardens were the perfect location for filming of the quirky film in 2009, and if you look closely you may see the odd strangely shaped hedge or statue leftover.
There's a classic beauty to the house and its fine collections make it a fascinating attraction to wander. The Woodland Gardens are also home to plenty to see and admire, so leave plenty of time for your visit. The stately home, gardens shop and tea rooms are open for tours between March and October, and the beautiful building remains home to the Carew Pole family, so you’ll get a unique view of the mansion as a family home too.
