A wander along Rock Beach (which lies opposite Padstow on the Camel Estuary) calls for dark glasses, as it’s the perfect beach for a spot of celebrity spotting. This is the Cornwall beach where you’re likely to see the jet set mooring their yachts and getting ready for some time out, and it’s even welcomed the odd royal on to its sands. No matter how many of the rich and famous make their way to Rock Beach, you’ll have no trouble finding space to walk or a spot to sit back and enjoy the sand as it’s huge.
The estuary is also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the bird life means there’s plenty of opportunity to spot wildlife during your wander. If you drive through the village of Rock towards the beach you’ll find the nearest car park to the sand, and there’s a dog ban between Easter and October.
Hidden behind the sand dunes that back the beach you’ll find the infamous St Enodoc Golf Club. Not only is this one of the West Country’s finest courses, but you’ll also find the mysterious St Enodoc’s Church within its grounds, which has been reclaimed from sand walls and dates back to the twelfth century.
