Now, this walk’s for the Poldark fans amongst you. This is your chance to traipse the very clifftops that Ross Poldark spend Sunday evenings stomping and galloping through throughout the series. The walk starts in Porthtowan and winds its way up to the beautiful Chapel Porth, following the coast path and passing what remains of the Wheal Charlotte engine house.
The engine house sits surrounded by mining relics from the days when the hills teemed with activity, and it makes this walk a touching one as well as a great way to experience panoramic sea views from high above the sea. When you leave the mine, you’ll follow the footpath along to the ridge at Towan Cross before following the riverside to what’s left of the Tywarnhayle mine.
Highlights of the walk include the beautifully unspoilt sandy beaches of Porthtowan and Chapen Porth, the jutting engine houses that tell the tale of Cornwall’s past, and look out for the minerals and crystals that dot the footpaths.
