With as much character as the rest of Polperro, this friendly little museum can be found right on the harbourside and tells the story of the village and its relationship with the sea. Polperro Harbour Heritage Museum gives visitors an insight into the importance of fishing to the village and tells the tales of the smugglers who reigned the local shores for so many years.
Collections include photos dating as far back as 1860 and an extensive set of model ships, so you’ll be pleasantly surprised by a visit and it’s a great way to get to know the village during a stay in Polperro. There are few building in the village that don’t have a history and a tale to tell and the museum building is no different - it was once pilchard factory!
The museum opens between April and October, and children under 5 are welcome free of charge. The tea room serves hot and cold refreshments, gluten free snacks and real Cornish ice cream – so if you want to taste real local produce during your visit you’ll have the perfect excuse! Dogs are welcome throughout the museum but owners are asked that they keep them on their leads.
