There are three things you need for a fantastic kitesurfing experience, and those are a beach with plenty of space, good wind conditions and the hunger for a thrill. Perranporth Beach is one of the best spots to kite surf in Cornwall, as it’s two miles long and almost a quarter of a mile wide when the tide goes out. One of the nicest things about kitesurfing is that pretty much anyone can have a go and enjoy the freeing sensation of hurtling across the sand at high speed.
You’ll find a few activity centres based in Perranporth if you want to pick up some new tricks or even learn from scratch, and their instructors tend to live for the thrill themselves so you’ll soon find yourself bitten with the bug.
The beach’s exposed position may not be perfect if you want to sunbathe on a breezy day but it’s just right for kitesurfing, and the wide open spaces make it a popular beach with those still learning the extreme sport.
You’ll find two large car parks close to the beach, and the one right on the seafront is probably best if you’ve got equipment with you as the cliff top one has steps that lead down to the sand. There’s also a friendly pub right beside the beach, and it’ll probably look even more welcoming after a day testing your nerve on the sand.
