Celebrity chef Rick Stein built something of an empire in Padstow before moving to live in Australia, and The Seafood Restaurant is one of his most popular eateries. In fact, the restaurant is one of Cornwall’s most sought-after places to sample fresh, local seafood in style, and the menu is heavily influenced by Stein’s global travels.
If you’re not too sure what to try we’d recommend keeping it simple and sampling the freshly-landed catch of the day cooked with seasonal vegetables, or you can perch at the seafood bar in the centre of the restaurant and take your pick. The seafood bar offers everything from sashimi to Porhilly oysters on its a la carte menu and it’ll be freshly prepared right under your nose. If you’re going to sit at the bar you won’t need to reserve in advance either.
Rick Stein once described real restaurants as places where the fish is fresh and the atmosphere is lively, so considering he’s one of the country’s most successful chefs this restaurant has a welcoming and informal feel to it. The menu showcases Cornwall’s famous seafood to perfection and it’s usually caught right outside the restaurant. As if we’d forget to mention the wine list, every bottle has been carefully chosen by Rick Stein himself, and it’s picked to bring out the flavours of each dish.
