For train enthusiasts and families with children, the Launceston Steam Railway makes for the perfect day out. The five mile round trip takes you along the Old North Cornwall Railway and will take you to see the beautiful sights of Kensey Valley and Newmills. The trains run hourly throughout the day and you can hop on and off as you please, so be sure to pack a picnic and take in some of the scenery along the way.
When you arrive at Launceston Station you will be spoilt for choice as to what you want explore first. Here you will find the Railway Workshops and Engineering Museum, which houses a vast collection of transport memorabilia and artefacts, and many of the exhibits are demonstrated in working order.
Also here at Launceston Station, you'll find a well-stocked gift shop and book shop. There are plenty of places to eat and drink around Launceston Station so why not take this opportunity to enjoy a traditional cream tea? Once you reach Newmills at the end of the line, you’ll have the chance to jump off and explore this stunning area. There are a range of countryside walks to enjoy as well as Newmills Farm Park with a petting zoo, rides, trampolines and a children’s play park.
