Sandymouth Beach is just what you’d expect from one of North Devon’s most popular stretches of sand – there’s plenty of surf, plenty of space and the scenery is gorgeous. The walk down to Sandymouth can be tricky if you’ve got small children or for those who aren’t too good on their feet, but if you can make it down the winding road to the sand it’s worth it for the unspoilt beauty and wide expanse of sand. This makes it a great spot to learn to surf or body board too, as the beach has the feeling of being away from the crowds.
Sandymouth Surf School is based right on Sandymouth Beach and offers surfing lessons for groups, families and individuals. Don’t worry if you’ve never tried Cornwall’s favourite sport, it’s never too late to learn and they’ll make sure that you’re safe, encouraged throughout and have lots of sun learning. The National Trust included Sandymouth Bay in their poll of the UK’s top ten surfing beaches, so make your Cornwall holiday extra special and try something new.
There are discounts available for groups and families, and you can choose from a taster session at just £30, or two or three sessions to get you well on your way to being a pro. There’s parking available in the nearby car park (owned by the National Trust) so take some change with you if you don’t fancy the walk down to the beach. Sandymouth Beach is the largest beach in Bude, and you’ll find friendly staff to help you learn in style, a cafe nearby and views you’ll never forget – so get ready for an incredible day out. Children love the beginner’s surfing lessons, and you’ll usually find that they pick it up faster than the adults, and the staff ensure that they have a great time while they get the hang of it.
