The Cobbaton Combat Collection in Umberleigh is an unusual family attraction in Bude and should be top of the list for anyone with an interest in all things military.
This military museum and one of a kind collection includes hundreds of fascinating artefacts and over 70 military vehicles, from WW2, the Boer War and the first Gulf War. The attraction also includes a shop which specialises in collectable items such as deactivated guns, military clothing, inert ammunition and survival equipment.
Even the refreshments are served in military style from inside a working NAAFI canteen wagon, and there’s a picnic area onsite too so families can enjoy their snacks outside. There are souvenirs to take home too, and children still love a military-themed toy as much as us oldies did when we were small.
The collection started life as one man’s hobby and he finally opened it to the public in 1981. Since then it’s continued to fascinate those who visit and has gotten bigger over the decades. There are facilities for the disabled at Cobbaton Combat Collection and it’s accessible throughout. Please note only guide dogs are permitted inside.
