Walks in BridgwaterThe immediate area surrounding our Bridgwater holiday cottages inspired one of our greatest Romantics, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and the great news is you can follow in his footsteps even today. There are dozens of walks that showcase Somerset’s unique and unmistakable English countryside, and the views are spectacular in any season. |

The Coleridge WayThe Coleridge Way runs for a beautiful 36 miles, and passes many of the views and areas that the poet himself loves and knew. The route passes through the Quantock Hills, Exmoor and Brendon Hills, and the landscapes inspired some of the best works of the Romantic era. The varied countryside along the way includes rugged moorland, farms, dense woods, valleys and villages. Being Somerset, you’re never far from a traditional village pub to stop off and rest your legs in, and many of them welcome pets inside if you’re on a Bridgwater walk with your dog.

The Somerset Space WalkThe Somerset Space Walk is the strangest walk in Bridgwater we could find! This unique way to walk the length of the canal between the towns is great fun for the whole family. Scale models of each planet in the solar system are found in accurate positions along the canal, with the sun halfway between the two towns. There are plenty of picnic areas along the way, and there is also a cafe inside the Canal Resource Centre, where walkers can learn more about the ideas behind the trail.

River Parrett and CanalThe River Parrett and Canal walk is a five mile Bridgwater walk. As the walk is fairly level, it’s graded as easy and should take around two hours to complete in full. There are three stiles along the way though, so this path isn’t suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. The closest car park to the starting point if the pay and display car park close to the Blake Museum, and dogs can be allowed off the lead for much of the tow path and riverside sections. This route follows the river in one direction and returns beside the canal.

The South West Coast PathAs luck would have it, the South West Coast Path connects to The Coleridge Way, so if you fancy taking a detour for some coastal views then this is the chance. The South West Coast Path is the longest public footpath in Britain, and rolls on for a total of 630 miles. The Coleridge Way links to the coast path to the south of the A39 close to East Quantoxhead. The coast path may pass livestock in places, so please keep your dog close if you do bring him along for a rural Bridgwater walk.
