Bodmin JailThe spookiest Bodmin family attraction has got to be Bodmin Jail, the former Cornwall County Jail! The jail closed in 1927 and now remains in its original state so that curious visitors can roam the halls and cells to see what life on the wrong side of the law was like in days gone by. It’s not all doom and gloom though, there’s a friendly bar and restaurant that’s open every day as well as a gift shop that’s great for unusual souvenirs! LanhydrockFrom a spooky coaching house to a grand stately home...next on the list of family attractions in Bodmin is Lanhydrock! This beautiful country house and its picturesque estate manage to avoid seeming pretentious, and it’s a fascinating experience to wander the family home of the Robartes family. The house was decorated in 1881, following a serious fire, and the design and interiors offer a rare insight into life in the Victorian era. Peer into the servants’ quarters, and then wander the Long Gallery and its collection of rare books to get a feel for both worlds. |
Bodmin MoorWhat better family attraction in Bodmin than Bodmin Moor?! This scenic area of North Cornwall rolls on for 80 square miles, and is the perfect spot to explore as a family or to enjoy time together in the great outdoors as a couple. The moor is home to hundreds of historic monuments and mysterious ruins, so it’s great fun to arrange a day’s walking with one of these sites as the goal. You may haveheard of the elusive Bodmin Beast, which is often reported by visitors to the moor but has never beed identified – so don’t forget your camera if you do visit! |
The Bodmin & Wenford RailwayThe Bodmin and Wenford Railway is the perfect attraction in Bodmin for those enjoying family holidays. This nostalgic steam train will delight children and remind the older passengers of days gone by! The 13 mile round trip is a brilliant way to sit back and admire the Cornish countryside, and the smell of steam and sounds of the engine will transport you back to the 1950s! The passenger train runs between February and December, and there are various themed events available throughout the year too. |
