Bodmin Riding & Heritage DayThe annual Bodmin Riding and Heritage Day is an ancient Bodmin event, with its roots in the 15 century. The tradition depicts events that led up the hanging of the Bodmin town mayor, and the modern version of the event is used to encourage the community and young people to learn new skills and enjoy a project. This Bodmin event takes place every July, and includes live music, town criers, street stalls selling local produce and crafts, a children’s procession and much more. Visitors are encouraged to come along for the event and join in the fun!

Bodmin Christmas Gift FairThe Bodmin Christmas Gift Fair is a very festive event in Bodmin! The fair is a great opportunity to pick up last minute Christmas gifts and seasonal goods – and much of the produce is local. The stalls are piled with fresh local produce, including Christmas meats, vegetables and ingredients, and if you’re looking for unusual gifts the crafts and wares available are perfect. The event is usually for just one day, and entry to the public is free. Even better, all proceeds from the sales support Children’s Hospice South West and the Precious Lives Appeal.

Daphne du Maurier FestivalDaphne du Maurier is responsible for novels such as The Jamaica Inn, Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel – and much of her work was set in the Bodmin area. The works of Daphne du Maurier will come to life throughout Bodmin with the annual Daphne du Maurier Festival in May. The festival will run between 12 – 21 May 2011, and celebrates the novels of the author, which often used the desolate moorland as the backdrop to the chilling plots. The Jamaica Inn was du Maurier’s most famous novel, and thousands still flock to the original coaching house that inspired the work. This popular Bodmin event includes themed workshops, teas and much more.
