It’s Devon County Show time again, and it’s going to be taking place from 17 – 19 May.

Devon Holiday Cottages The show will be held at the Devon County Showground and is set to be packed with events, displays and produce to showcase the West Country.

This year’s attractions will include the Royal Mounted Canadian Police, Adam Henson, horses and show jumping, Devon ales, steam engines and vintage cars and many more.

This Weekend Combine Dartmouth’s Music Festival with Monty Halls Great Escapes

This weekend sees a trio of events in Dartmouth starting with the Dartmouth Music Festival on Friday, headlined by the Military Wives along a host of other performers including Grainne Duffy, Bo Diddley’s protégé Hamilton Loomis, The Larry Garner Blues Band and The Martin Harley Band. 

The Festival lasts three days and features over 80 groups and soloists performing at venues around this pretty coastal town. 

On Saturday Monty Halls and Nigel Legge from BBC2’s The Fisherman’s Apprentice, will be holding a question and answer session as well as a book signing from 4pm at Monty’s Great Escapes shop on Market Square.

Celebrate the Jubilee at a grandiose Devon castle, with Kings and Queens Week at Powderham Castle near Exeter.

Running from 2 – 8 June, this exciting event will see characters and puppets roaming the castle dressed in all their finery – so you’d better practice your curtseys and bows!

You’ll come face to face with kings and queens from centuries of our royal history and hear tales of their lives and reigns.

The Brixham Pirate Festival is one of the bay’s most popular annual events, and it takes place this Saturday and Sunday.

Brixham’s historic harbour area will host live sea shanty, pirate skirmish re-enactments on the Golden Hind and a record attempt fancy dress competition.

We’re having an official launch party at our new Salcombe shop this afternoon, and everybody’s welcome!

If you’re in the area between 2 – 6pm please come and enjoy a glass of wine and canapés with us to celebrate the opening of our first shop.

The shop is in Fore Street in the gorgeous town of Salcombe in the South Hams, and we hope to see you there very soon.

Monty Halls’ Great Escapes Launches Unique Devon Trips

Monty Halls, writer, explorer, marine biologist, former Royal Marines officer, and star of both BBC 2’s Great Escape series and the recently aired Fisherman’s Apprentice, is launching his own unique take on guided wildlife tours in South Devon.

Devon holidays He has created a collection of unique trips and experiences that echo elements from his Great Escapes series, which can now be booked throughout the summer.

Prime among these is the Great Escapes Ultimate Taste of Devon tour, which takes explorers on a trip to stimulate all the senses and to discover the best of Devon’s coastal culinary delights.  Costing  just £50 per person the trip starts from the harbour at Dartmouth in South Devon and takes guests on an exploration of the sea, the coast, the coves, the wildlife, the paths, and - best of all – the delicious produce from local Devon farms and fishing boats

It’s a special day in Cornwall’s Padstow today, the famous ‘Obby ‘Oss Day!

Ok, so nobody quite remembers the exact point of the festival these days, but it’s thought to have marked the start of Spring, or even to have started as a fertility festival.

If you happen to be in Cornwall it’s well worth going to watch, as locals dress in red or white (depending on their family allegiance) and follow a red and a blue Oss through the town’s narrow streets.

The 2012 Daphne du Maurier Festival will run from 09-20 May.

This May major names including Sir Terry Wogan, Sir Trevor McDonald, Julian Clarey, Fern Britton, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan will headline at the spectacular 12-day Daphne du Maurier festival in Fowey, home to the acclaimed author of such greats as Jamaica Inn, Rebecca, and Fisherman’s Creek.

Fowey Holiday CottagesAs well as nationally and internationally known writers and TV presenters, the festival (09-20 May) will play host to a range of musicians including Oysterband, who swept the board at this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards; eighties favourite Nik Kershaw, and even classic boy bad Blake.

Weymouth Kite Festival returns next month

It’ll be all eyes to the sky over the May bank holiday in Dorset, as Weymouth Kite Festival takes place once again on the seafront.

Weymouth holiday cottages The festival will see hundreds of kites will the skies from 5-7 May.

The sandy beach will host giant sky sculptures, stunt kites and many more sights making it a weekend to remember.

Live shows and an egg hunt at Devon’s Crealy this Sunday

It’s all happening at Crealy Great Adventure Park this weekend, as there will be live shows taking place from Friday to Monday and an Easter egg hunt on Sunday!

Devon Holidays Crealy is one of Devon’s favourite family attractions and it will be hosting a live show with Roary the Racing Car on Friday and another with Fifi and Bumble on Monday.

There will also be a Buddy Bear show throughout Easter, and they’ll all take place in the Showdome.
