6th November- Bridgwater Carnival, Bridgwater- The largest illuminated carnival procession in the region with over 120 large and colourful floats that take over 2 hours to process the streets of the town. Entertainment in the town throughout the day, procession starts at 7.00pm followed by Squibbing (the simultaneous firing of lots of large fireworks) in the High Street. The Squib itself is a large firework, strapped to a cosh (a solid block of wood which is attached to a large pole). The Squibber holds the squib at arm’s length above their head with the firework facing toward the sky.
7th November- Firework Festival, Woodlands, Dartmouth- From the War of the Wizards mural and the 40 ft bonfire to the impressive array of sideshows and local musicians, Woodlands firework festival is a family friendly fun evening out for all to enjoy. The victor in the best wizard competition will be awarded the grand prize of lighting the magnificent bonfire and leading the Wizards’ Procession. Award-winning Bristol based pyrotechnical artists Fire Magic have been hired to ensure that the evening goes out with a bang!
12th November-
Christmas Lights Switch On, Plymouth Piazza- The company responsible for lighting the Eiffel Tower and Oxford Street, London, bring a touch on international glamour to Plymouth. Over £450,000 worth of illuminations will be lit up for the first time to mark the beginning of the festive period. Coupled with late night shopping, this is a magical, must-see event.
13th November-15th November- Teignmouth Jazz Festival, Teignmouth- Whether New Orleans, Swing, Modern or Contemporary is your preference; Teignmouth Jazz Festival is a hallmark event for jazz fans everywhere. With regular coaches transporting fans from the town centre to the venue, and a vast array of local artists, including DYJO, Sweet Chorus and Mark Nightingale there are a variety of ticket options to suit every pocket.
15th November-Clovelly Herring Festival, Clovelly-A celebration of all things herring in Clovelly, includes various herring dishes, a special promotion of Thatcher’s Gold cider and even an appearance from historian Mike Smylie. With traditional shanty singers and numerous stalls, this quaint event is perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
21st November-31st December- Devon Guild of Craftsmen Christmas Exhibition, Bovey Tracey- A unique opportunity to appreciate and purchase some of the finest hand-crafted merchandise from local craftsmen. Whether you are an enthusiast or simply looking for an ideal Christmas gift, this is a great place to go.
Throughout November and December- Devon Nature Walks-
Take in some of the most stunning scenery that Devon has to offer in this selection of walks around the county. With distances and locations to suit every walker, this is a wonderful opportunity to get active and appreciate some breath-taking views.
28th November- South Brent Winter Floodlit Carnival, South Brent- An impressive array of beautifully decorated, award winning floats, under the pleasant gaze of floodlights make this event on of the most successful of its kind in Devon.
28th November-29th November- Christmas Trail, Dartmouth Castle- A Christmas-themed treasure hunt. Search for clues around the castle and claim your prize from the English Heritage little helpers.
