Whether you love it or hate it there’s no going back now, the controversial bronze Damien Hirst monument has been erected on Ilfracombe’s seafront. The statue of a pregnant woman holding a sword aloft measures 20 metres and is the newest addition to the unspoilt Devon skyline.
The artist chose the picturesque town of Ilfracombe on the north Devon coast to lend his statue (named Verity) to for two decades.
The monument has divided residents and visitors, with some curious to go and have a look and others feeling that it mars the area’s beauty. One thing’s for sure though, it’s certainly inspired plenty of feeling!
