It’s going to be an exciting weekend for foodies in Cornwall, as it’s nearly time for Rick Stein’s annual Beer and Mussel Festival at The Cornish Arms in St Merryn - hurray!
The festival’s all set to take place from Friday to Sunday, and the programme’s packed with foodie treats that’ll inspire even the most discerning palates, as well as live music, the chance to sit back and watch the rugby, and there’s even a book signing with Rick himself. We know what you’re thinking, if there’s a better way to spend a weekend in Cornwall then this then we’d love to see it too.
Those of you keen to sample the beers and ciders on offer will have your pick of over 40, and one of the weekend’s highlights will be the chance to sample some of Rick’s favourite mussel recipes…he’s even got a new one up his sleeve inspired by his recent adventure from Venice to Istanbul.
Here are a few highlights from the event’s programme to help you plan your weekend in foodie Heaven…
The festival will start with a Cornwall-inspired performance from local comedian the Kernow King, and then there’ll be dancing to a live DJ.
Saturday morning will be all about bacon baps and coffee (as every Saturday morning should be if you ask us), and Rick will be on hand to sign books. You’ll also be able to brush up your own skills with a series of chef demonstrations from Jack Stein and Stuart Pate, and the rugby will be screened from 2.30pm.
There’ll be more chef demos than you can shake a whisk at throughout Sunday, as well as another book signing from Rick and a Big Pub Quiz to close the event.
Don’t worry if you’re not a great lover of shellfish, Rick’s thought of everything. You’ll be able to try the Goan chicken curry, the Goan vegetable curry or hot dogs with Danish pickled cucumber, shallots and mustard complete with ouzo and feta cheese…and don’t even get us started on the fresh churros with warm chocolate sauce…
