Recently I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to spend the weekend at Cormorant, one of the newest additions to our portfolio, and I jumped at the chance. The weather forecast was looking good for the weekend, so after a busy day at work I hopped in the car and set off for Brixham, South Devon.
Arriving at Cormorant on a sunny Friday evening I couldn’t have been more impressed. Weaving your way up through the narrow streets you’ll find Cormorant, a traditional fisherman’s cottage with views right across Brixham’s marina. Tucked away, half way up St Peters Hill at the top of a set of stone stairs this destination is a tranquil, quiet escape just a few steps from heart of Brixham.
The property impressed as much from the outside as it did when I entered, from the secluded, shared garden you peek through the bi-folding doors and glimpse the beautiful open plan living space.
Once inside you start to notice all the subtle touches that really make Cormorant feel special. Touches like the unique dining table and accompanying bench seats framed by the original stone wall, and nautical touches like the rope hand rail and the oars mounted to the walls. Then, when you venture upstairs, you’re greeted by the stunning view across Brixham harbour and out to Torbay.
Brixham is a great destination for a summer getaway, this bustling fishing port has lots to see and do and is only a short drive from the rest of Torbay if the mood to venture out of town takes you.
Whilst exploring the hilly streets of Brixham, you’ll stumble across quirky cocktail bars, cosy restaurants offering a plethora of fresh, locally caught seafood fresh from the boats (or Jamaican food for those who enjoy their food a little spicier), traditional pubs offering character in abundance and a spot to watch the world go by and not to mention stunning vistas to simply sit and admire.
Brixham also boasts a beautifully inviting tidal lido which is hard to resist on a scorching summers day before sprawling out on the pebbles beside the breakwater to dry off, just make sure you’ve applied your sun cream! Following my weekend at Cormorant I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to visit Torbay…I’d stay there again in a heartbeat.
