A family break at Mulberry Lodge

Sometimes, it's all about the hot tub...

A few weekends ago, I decided to steal a few days at the 5* Platinum rated Mulberry Lodge with my fiancé Jess and our 8-month-old daughter Isabelle.  What with our wedding planning and preparations taking priority over the last couple of years, and every spare pound going into that pot, it’s been a while since we had a holiday, or a break of any description really. To cut a long story short, we needed a bit of time for R&R, and boy did we go to the right place…

We swept through Cheddar on Friday evening and onto the resort. Before we’d even put our bags down, I could hear the hot tub bubbling away outside, but first we unpacked and explored the lodge. The living area is spacious, with a really comfortable sofa and large wall mounted TV, whilst the kitchen was strikingly large, with a fantastic amount of storage.

A double shower cubicle and a freestanding, roll-top bath, a walk-in wardrobe complete with dressing table and mirror, huuuuuge bed, or the twinkling starlights built into the undercover seating area outside. The wonders here seemed endless and there was always something new to wow us. A late-night dip in the hot tub and the week at work seemed a distant memory!

On Saturday we fancied a drive, so took the back roads and visited Clevedon Pier and had lunch in the beautiful ‘5 The Beach’. We drove to Portishead and wandered around the marina before heading back to Cheddar and driving up through the Gorge, watched as climbers ascend the rocks and decided that on our next visit, we’d definitely be checking out the caves!

Sunday was altogether more relaxed. We went in and out of the hot tub at will, even Isabelle had a brief dip in between naps! The kitchen had more than enough tins and trays for us to enjoy a nice roast dinner and the great thing was that everything in the kitchen felt like it was in the right place.

It was a real disappointment when the weekend came to an end, but what a fantastic way to spend our well-earned time together. We’d melted away our stress in the hot tub, and when it comes to the bed, well all I can say is we slept so well that my fiancé has now asked me to find out from the owner, what bed, mattress, pillows and linen they use, as she wants to buy all of them, so it looks like the weekend might’ve cost a bit more than I expected!!!
