The Hobby Drive Walk is one of the best ways to appreciate this former smuggling hub, and this woodland path weaves its way past some stunning views of the famous harbour.

Created between 1811 and 1829, The Hobby Drive is a remainder from The Romantic Movement and comprised a 3 mile drive intended for carriages. This walk is particularly beautiful in springtime when a carpet of bluebells greets those who walk it.

Just 15 minutes’ drive from Barnstaple, Ilfracombe has 4 dog friendly beaches to choose from, 3 of which are sandy! Wildersmouth Beach, Watermouth Beach, Wild Pear Bay beach and Lynmouth Beach welcome dogs all year round, so if your pet enjoys exploring along the shore you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Lynmouth beach is pebbly, and has a nature trail, as do Watermouth and Wild Pear beaches. Each of the beaches has their own parking except for Wild Pear Beach. Families planning pet friendly trips to the beach may want to bear in mind that Pear Bay is popular with naturists!

Just drop your four-legged friend off as you arrive and remember to collect him on the way out! The Milky Way Adventure Theme Park welcomes well behaved dogs but they must be kept on their leads, unfortunately they are not permitted in the birds of prey centre. Dogs are also permitted on leads to the gardens and outside estate at Arlington Court, near Barnstaple.
