Town BeachTown Beach is home to thousands of pebbles which were specially imported as part of a coastal protection scheme. This built the beach up to meet road level and it now offers protection to Marine Parade and its grand buildings. The Cobb end of the beach was enhanced with imported sand, so it doesn’t get covered when the tide comes in. This is great news for those planning Lyme Regis beach holidays, as there’s always a sandy stretch of fun throughout the day. This section of the beach is also well-served by various refreshment kiosks and shops.

Back BeachFound to the north west of the main town, this Lyme Regis beach is best accessed from the north of the promenade, but there is a risk of being cut off by the tide so please check the times before you approach it. Back Beach’s pebbles mean that it’s not the best spot for sprawling in the sun, but with so many pebbles to search for fossils you’ll have more than enough to entertain you. It’s worth noting that the cliffs around Back Beach are fairly unstable, so it’s best to enjoy them from a little distance rather than directly beneath them.

Church BeachChurch Beach is another favourite with those on beach holidays in Lyme Regis. Found just in front of the promenade’s protective rock armour, Church Beach has a few areas of sand to enjoy, but its real charm is the many rock pools along it. Best of all, there’s ample opportunity for shrimp catching too so don’t forget your bucket and spade. This Lyme Regis beach completely disappears at high tide, and you’ll need to get wet if you want to stroll along the sandy spots, so it’s another great choice for the explorers amongst you.

Monmouth BeachFound to the west of the famous Cobb, Monmouth beach is a long, sandy stretch of beach with fantastic views and plenty of facilities for day trippers. Monmouth Beach earned its name when the Duke of Monmouth landed on it in 1685. He attempted to force the crown from King James II, only to be defeated. Monmouth Beach is the perfect place to relax and watch others stroll around the famous harbour and Lyme Regis Cobb, as it’s just a pebble’s throw away! If you’re thinking of fossil hunting during your Lyme Regis beach holiday, it’s best to look as the tide goes out, and Monmouth Beach is known for its gigantic ammonites.
