Christmas is coming and the geese are getting fat...and that means our diaries are starting to fill with festive events that are all about making memories together. Here are just a few of our favourite days out in the run up to the big day...
1. Exeter Christmas Market
Under the watchful gaze of the cathedral, Exeter Christmas Market bustles with shoppers as they browse the stalls around the cathedral green. You’ll find continental favourites like Gluhwein, crepes and roast hog to keep you warm while you shop.
2. Skipton Christmas Market
There’s something nice and Christmassy about Skipton all year round, and as it hosts its festive market on 13 th December it looks like a scene from a Christmas card. Better yet, Santa will be in his grotto with two of his reindeer waiting to greet younger visitors.
3. Skating at Eden
Winter means one thing at the Eden Project, and that's the chance to get your skates on and show off you skills on the magical rink inside one of the famous biomes. Stars shine on the walls, lights twinkle, and the whole thing feels like the perfect Christmas.
4. Christmas at Osborne House
Christmas at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight has always been a rather grand affair, and festive guided tours throughout the month mean visitors can experience a Victorian Christmas in the palace Queen Victoria called home.
5. Christmas at Hestercombe
Get into the Christmas spirit at Hestercombe Gardens, three jaw-droppingly beautiful gardens with a history that spans centuries. There’s ice skating, a market and the chance to visit Santa in his grotto, so this English country garden becomes a dazzling festive day out.
6. Totnes Christmas Market
A firm favourite with us Blue Chippers on Tuesday evenings throughout December, the Totnes Christmas market sees stalls line the cobbled streets of Totnes, the smell of chestnuts fill the air and best of all – late night shopping.
7. Christmas at Pennywell Farm
If your little ones didn’t quite get the part they were after in this year’s school nativity then there’s another chance to shine at Devon’s Pennywell Farm. All visitors are welcome to grab a costume and take part in one of the nativities, and even the resident animals join in!...
8. Santa Specials on the IOW Steam Railway
Havenstreet Station comes over all Christmassy as Santa sets up camp in his winter wonderland from 19 th – 24 th December. The station comes to life with live music, a Christmas market and Santa’s grotto…all that excitement before you’ve even stepped onto the train!
9. Santa Land at Wookey Hole
Make your way through twinkling Christmas illuminations and pay a visit to Santa in his magical kingdom at Wookey Hole until 24 th December. The special festive attraction ‘Sleigh Rides’ takes visitors on a 4D adventure, and there’s a pressie for every child.
10. Weymouth's Big Christmas
Let’s face it, few towns know how to celebrate quite like Weymouth, and Christmas is no different. The town centre’s home to an ice rink, real reindeer, traditional festive markets and live entertainment throughout December.
